claws!

I have noticed Harveys dew(sp) claws are a little long and a couple of his other claws are too
I walk him on the pavement to keep them down, and he doesnt really like anyone touching his feet
The question is could I do them myself, what do I need to get and how far up do you trim them, or should I take him to the vet?

Hi,

There was a post here 2/3 weeks ago on how to do it. I'll try and find the link......

I do Mason's claws when I need to - but he is extremely good. I have made a point since almost the day we got him of doing the tiniest trim every now and then to get him used to it.

What is Harvey like at the vets? I would suggest taking him there, but is it likely to stress him out. If he is a bit foot-shy anyway, might make him worse? Would he better at one of the groomers that are around (PAH etc).

If it's just the dew claws that you are really worried about, you should be able to do just a small trim without any danger of hitting the quick.

Dont know how to post the link on the forum, but it was on the General Doggy Forum and back in May!!!! (Boy, where has the time gone - could have sworn it was only a few weeks ago!) Do a search on 'nails' and you should find it.

Otto 's Mutter has a spectacular aura about
I normally give Otto's claws a trim myself & I have some guillotine trimmers that I got from PAH however, today he has had a mobile dog groomer come round for the first time & give him a pamper session. She gave his nails a quick trim at the same time. Cost me £25 for him to have a bath, groom & nail trim. I know it would have cost me at least £20 for just a nail trim at the vets which is what they charged me for a consultation.

Beki is a jewel in the rough
you need to avoid the quick if you do it yourself as it will bleed alot, if you have no coagulant then u can use flour.

Poss best to take him to a groomer or vet as if he is foot shy and u do catch a quick it will hurt and they do remember

i charge £5 for nails
