Prostrate trouble?

Can a young dog suffer from prostrate trouble?
Since a young pup, Bodie has his "days" where its like he might have held it in too long, then does a little trickle wee, only to want to do another little trickle wee a couple of mins later, can go on like this for a few hours until its all "back to norm"

He's having such a day today, other days he's fine, he can wee for Wales!!, (gushes out )
Anyone else's male dogs had this, or offer any advice?

Leo has had this but the vet said it was very unusual for a male to have symptoms like these which are similar to cystitus(sp?).

Leo had been repeatedly beaten for the first 6 months of his life and in his case the vet felt sure his problems were due to "trauma".

With Leo it was worse if he had been left for a longish time without being able to go out for a wee. Having said that he is 11 now and I dont think it has bothered him for quite a few years now he has obviously grown out of it.

Dont know if this helps, probably not.

Thanks for the reply Sami. I never thought of cystitus, yes its like as if he has that. He hasnt passed blood though. Its just a small trickle as if he has held it overnight (he usaully comes to wake us to go out, so its not as if he HAS to hold it) And he hasnt had no "trauma" in his life.
It usually goes by the next day, I will keep a eye on him and take him to the vets if it perisits for antibiotics. We are about to go for a walk soon (in the rain ) If he does some nice big streams i know its ok

Leo never had antibiotics for it and he was just the same it would only be maybe for half a day every now and again. He would be seeming to strain to wee and then intermittent squirting for what seemed like 10 minutes. He never seemed to have any lasting damage from it.

Perhaps worth checking he doesnt have a uti if it persists, but I would expect it to go for a few days if it was an infection and as said unusual for males to get them.

Well out for a walk earlier ( like drowned rats both of us!)
Everything seems fine, he was like a fire hydrant, cocking his leg everywhere! and tonight he hasnt wanted many wee's
Its an intermittent thing, seems like its caused when he holds it too long.

Michelle if you met him you wouldnt believe it. He is the most trusting loving dog you could ever see.

He was a pup of Sami (stupid vet said sami couldnt get preggers) I hand picked who had the pups said they would have to pay £500 for them but didnt charge them. The guy (he was a close friend) who had Leo asked us to have him back at 6 months he couldnt cope with him. The guy openly said "I have hit that dog so many times with a mop and he never learns".

Leo has had probs with his pee as said and has epilepsy, luckily very infrequently, from trauma to the head.

what can I say.

: That's terrible, and upsetting. Glad you got him back, Tracy.

Stu, it sounds like urinary retention. That gives small frequent wees. Pleased Bodie seems back to normal though. Remus does 'horse wees'
