sebaceous cysts

Hi me n my sash had are new to the forum!

I'm looking for sum advice sash has a sabeceous cyst on her right hind leg which she can get to very easily. I have seen the vet and have been covering with bandage to stop her licking

She can now get it off

Any tips on what else I can use to cover and has anybody had much experience with these?

Thanx heather

Hi - have no idea, except for the bog-standard buster collar, but someone else I am sure will have some ideas. Just wanted to say hi + welcome!

If it is bothering her and you can squeeze it (yuk I know) they sometimes burst very easily. If it does you will get a white/yellow/greenish paste type of stuff out fo it , then you can clean it with saltwater and hopefully she will leave it.

If it doesnt squeeze easily then leave it.

Other than a buster collar the only thing you can do is get the vet to remove it but I have never had to do this myself.

Welcome to the forum Heather, my old Bearded Collie has a very large one on his back, and I often squeeze it, not the best of jobs, but if you can do as Sami suggest, then it might be the end of your problem.
The trouble with these things is that they almost always come back, but you never know Sash licking it clean may do a better job than we can

If it cant be squeezed, then you are very restricted,.. you could try one of those sticky horse bandages, it might help,..if not its got to be the collar I think

Stuart is quite correct they do tend to come back and German Shepherds are said to be quite prone to them but I expect its all dogs really.

They dont usualy bother with them so if the vet has looked at it and said its not infected it could be just ocd habit with her. If you can distract her from it for long enough she may well stop bothering it.

She is 8 n half n has lots warts over her. This on her leg used to look black brown n hard ages had it for years n like that vet hud says if it ain't bothering her we will leave it.

Bit had become red n raw, vet says to try flamazine as it got silver n more topical than giving oral antibiotic. Bit she got wise to ma bandaging lol fooled her for 2 days now it won't last 10 mins

Mayb she is ocd with it, a hate putting the collar on her she gives me the big sad eyes then rams my legs to get me back lol

I dont think thats a cyst. I would say it is either a benign tumor or a wart.

You could try putting something nasty tasting on it, not sure what else.
