bee / wasp sting

just had a horrible panick,

my oh let frankie outside, i was upstairs heard her screaming and crying ran down and she was on floor in agony whaling her head off, lasted for a few minutes, shes calmed down now seems okay, couldnt work out what was up, her paws etc werent bothering her, checked her tongue and she has something onit, im presuming this could be a sting, what should i do now i couldnt take it out, should i get some tweezers and pull it or will it fall out on its own?

Could it be a thorn or a wood splinter? If so and she is calm try and get it out yourself. If you do manage to get it out make sure you keep whatever it is so you can take it to the vet if you need to go.

If it is a sting and it has gone into her tongue you will probably need to get her to a vet as it will start to swell.

My girl has 2 piriton tabs a day, I'd give the other half later just to be on safe side

Poor girl!! Hope she feels better soon! One of my terriers got attacked by a swarm of wasps on our walk this morning! Wasps are awful this time of year!

Poor Frankie! I sympathise entirely as although I'm not daft enough to chew on a wasp I was stung yesterday on the back of the neck!

I'm glad I've read this thread because I wouldn't have had a clue what to do if Olli (who is very fond of chasing flying beasts) had chewed on a wasp!

I'd maybe give Frankie an ice cube to have a bit of a chew on too, Olli loves them and it can only help with his sore tongue!

Fingers and Paws crossed Frankie is feeling better soon!

Thanks for your concern, shes seems fine now, felt useless at the time, she was so bad and couldnt tell what was wrong dont want to see her like that again, heart stopped

Hope shes learnt her lesson, no more trying to catch the buggers in her mouth, somehow i dont think she will though lol

Tilly was stung last year, she was almost immediately covered in large lumps, rushed her to vet who gave an antihistamine injection, + told us if we hadn't taken her her lungs could have swollen + she wouldn't have been able to breathe + would have died in front of us

So just to warn you it's not always a question of give a piriton, you have to look at each case + take a view, any lumps or swellings then it's the vet as an emergency, or risk your dog dying

I had read a few horror stories on the net yest, absolutely horrible and i never knew that a sting could be so dangerous

Frankie was not showing any symtoms just pain at the time it happened, had her in bed last night as wanted to know if her breathing changed or anything couldnt sleep for ages as it kept sounding like she was struggling checked her and then realised it was OH snoring lol

Even though it wasnt a nice thing to happen at least i know what to look for if it happens again
