How long between seasons??

Just a quick question, i'd ask my vet but she gets a bit funny when it comes to things like this.... she seems to think that Rogue should have been spayed asap but i wanted her to mature a bit first, and she's just come in to her second season....

Question is, how long do i leave it now until i get her done or do i let her have another?? I know she is still maturing, but i always had it in my head that i would bring her up to 2 and see how she goes, she's settling down all the time but i'm not sure how long to leave it. To me, even at just over a year old she still seems like a big pup!

Has anyone else given their dog a little more time to mature and if so, when did you go ahead and go for the operation???

Personally I'd wait till she was two years old. I know many people disagree with that, but that's what I'd do.

The larger the dog, the longer it'll take them to mature, and let's face it, a GSD is somewhat on the large side!

If she's just over a year now, I'd wait for at least one more season.

You need to wait until she's mid-cycle so 3 months after the date of her last season.

I had Zee spayed at a year old. Vet and the research I said spay after 1st or 2nd season. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't calm them down !

I have recently had Kira spayed (after her third season). Personally I would wait until she has had one more season and is a bit more mature mentally.

I'm a traditionist when it comes to spaying more so for large breeds...

My opinion is that you are guided by seasons but not before the 14 months age... As said ideally a spay should take place 3 month after the season (mid way between seasons) at this point the hormnes should be at their lowest ebb and dog shouldn't be preseason cranky (dogs can get PMT too)

Ellie was spay 3 months after her first season when she was 14 months old and no problems what so ever..

At the end of the day, your vet can hold what ever opinion she likes the choice it yours, so go with what your heart tells you, if you feel that you want to wait until the first season, second or the season after she's two then that's fine..

Your dog your choice love. I personally never spay mine until they are at least 2yrs old. Let them develop physically and mentally first.

I think it is personal choice really the only thing I would say is I have never had any gsd that was remotely mature until at least 18 months, as said in another post Leo is 12 now and still a big baby.
