Boaster time!

I had a phone call from my vets yesterday which left me rather miffed..

Jones boaster was due in July, but I haven't arranged it yet because of not having the car..

What miffed me is that if I don't have it done soon then it means that I will have to start all again and Jones will have to have the full course

Now I know this isn't true with the exception of Pavo which really does need doing on a yearly bases..

I'm half tempted to wait until next year go to another vet, and just get a boaster done..

My vet reckons that we over vaccinate anyway. He vaccinates every 3 years - even the parvo unless there's an outbreak in the area.

The effective life of all the vaccines nowadays (including parvo) is 3 years, so vets who vaccinate more often are either aware of a particular problem in the area, or are downright money-making-monsters!

Its the money making. Many people dont realise that they are now paying the same for bi-annual vaccinations that used to be annual.

Probably the latter...

There's been a couple of times I've been unhappy with them.

Making rush upto the vets, and then telling me that nothing in Jelly Babies to worry about, and Charging me almost £40 for this, when they could have told me this over the phone..

Then when Daisy broke her back, trying to encourage me to have an X-Ray that wasn't needed before having her PTS...

Me I think it's time to get a new vet.. Perferably one of our local farm vets who in my past experience tend to treat their customers more fairly and with a tad more honesty... No farm vet would have suggested X-Raying a cat with a broken back..

The Leptro. (spread by rat urine in stagnant water) still needs to be given every year.

"In 2004, MSD Animal Health obtained a licence for a dog vaccine with a three year duration of immunity against parvovirus, hepatitis and distemper. Vets using this vaccine - Nobivac® DHPPi - are now able to protect dogs using far fewer vaccine components, as shown below.

Please note that protection against leptospirosis still requires an annual vaccination with Nobivac® Lepto 2 or equivalent."

In latter years I have only had the initial puppy vaccinations done and have not had any boosters given to my dogs.

None of my dogs have caught any of the diseases that vaccination would have prevented and all have been walked/lived in a 'town' area.

I don't need to put my dogs in kennels, so I don't have to vaccinate for that.

It is dependent upon the brand of vaccine they are using.

Some vaccines have to have the booster at yearly intervals.
