Have tried the PDSA, if you go to their website they do have a checker that you can use, and if none is available in your area I think if I remember there is a fund you can apply to for help...

But netureing isn't a magic cure, and will still need input into changing his behaviour, as soon as he tries to mount, give an aahhh or something like that and redirect his attention to say something like playing a game, I often use with Ellie the palm touch game, I show my palm if she touches it with her nose she gets a treat, I keep moving my hand around so she got to concetrate on my hand to see where it lands too, to touch to get the treat..

jesterjenn has a spectacular aura about
Where abouts in the Country are you and how heavy is he?

If you have a Pet Vaccination Clinic near you, they are really cheap. I got Harls done last year and it cost £50 (he was less than 35kg, but if Harley is over 35kg it's only £65)

Has he just started this?

If so there could be a bitch in season nearby, don't worry they don't stay in season for long so it could well subside in a week or so's time.

If there is a bitch in season he could well go off his food, also when you take him out his nose will be glued to the ground and he will be following her scent, if you let him off lead he could well refuse to recall and take off after the scent. He could also 'howl' to go out.

My boy used to be virtually impossible to live with when there was a bitch in season nearby, especially the last week of its season - he used to get really desperate and start to try and mount me!!!!

From The Dogs Trust ....

If you receive any of the following benefits and live in one of our campaign regions, you could be eligible for our subsidised neutering scheme.

Income Support
Jobseeker’s Allowance (income-based)
Working Tax Credit
Housing Benefit
Council Tax Benefit
Pension Credit
NI Housing Executive Tenancy

If you receive one of the benefits listed you simply take along some proof of your benefit when taking the dog to be neutered, and the vet will only charge £30

Hope that helps

It definitely sounds like you have a bitch in season nearby.

My boy used to get like this in the last week of a bitch's season, because I used to know what to look for I could tell you exactly when the neighbours bitch started her season and when she was within days of finishing!

The last couple of days he used to get really frantic/desperate and if I went out and left him with my OH he used to even start licking and drooling over my chair! It is also the one time he growled at me - he was so frantic to go out and had been 'silent' howling (he did not even know he was howling, it used to come from deep down in his chest!), I told him to go and lie down and blocked him from the door - he growled!!! I instantly 'changed the subject' and he never did it again.

Male dogs sometimes fight when there is a bitch in season, so be a bit careful when you take him out if there are other males around.

Although there is no 'off' switch for this behaviour, when she has finished the season (hopefully in the next few days!) it will be like a switch has been thrown and you will get your 'normal' dog back - until six months time that is!

You could try asking other dog owners around your neighbourhood and see if they know if there is a bitch in season - or if they are having trouble with their male dogs. It will not stop his behaviour, but at least it helps to know the cause!

Sue

I really hope one of the organisations can help you. Have you thought about speaking to your vet about a payment plan? They might be able to help, you never know.
