Feeding

Hi guys , advice again please , u may recall I had terrible problems getting Mowgli to eat for a long time , he has now been on butchers tripe for about 4 months and absolutely loves it !! hes eating 6 tins a day but will not eat any biscuit at all or any dry food of any type , believe me I've tried them all , my worry is , he is just so tired , he is only 2 yrs and at work with me all day , I put him in the car for a rest like I did with Bair and he used to sleep with her but since she has gone he just looks for me , Im concerned he is not getting enough vits and mins ? do u think I should give him some and if so which one would you recommend ? I also thought about a working dog type of food but dont really know what Im looking for ! any ideas please ?? Lxx

I spoke to a guy with two working dogs at work once, now i'm useless at remembering information which is gonna be a great help for you!
But he got his working dog food from pets at home, he said it was a plain white bag and cost approx £10 for the really big bags, he'd add raw into their diet (separate from the food) throughout the day to give them the extra boost they needed.

Sorry i can't help you out more, someone is sure to come along

I think you need to feed a much more varied diet,... too much of the same food is not good, even if the one for is of good quality,...no one item will have all the vitimins needed

You could try Skinners and mix in some tinned fish to tempt him?

I was under the impression that butchers Tripe could be used as a complete food on its own in which case it should contain all the essential minerals and vitamins, maybe it doesnt contain enough to maintain your dogs energy or it could be that he is stressed since he lost his partner

I can recommend Skinners in particular the Duck for its low stool volume

My 4 are picky eaters,They all have arden grange lamb and rice dry but wont touch it without a tin of meat mixed in and then it has to be butchers, the loaf type as they dont do gravy or jelly types.

I know how frustrating and worrying it can be when you dont think they are getting enough goodness from their food and i hope you can find a solution to your problem.

When leah had a spell of not wanting her food i got some tinned royal canin sensitivity from the vet,its the stuff they give you after your dog has had an op or is convalesing and its a way of giving them some goodness even if they have a poor appetite.I have know myself to hand feed this stuff to her in desperation for her to eat something.
Thankfully mine are ok at eating now but i remember being very frustrated and worried about them.

Good Luck

Thanks very much for ur advice and help , yes Pam I thought it was a complete food too , maybe I should just increase how much he has ? He's really not fat at all so I could afford to I think ? I really have tried everything with the dry foods , gravy mixed in , completely mashed , u name I've mixed it and he just looks at me and walks away , maybe I should have persevered but he went 7 days without eating at one point and he's so active I just worried , he lost so much weight and looked very poor , maybe it's ok as it is , just missing Bair so much and I guess I'm looking for more ways to be good to him to compensate ? If that makes sense ?? Thanks again guys Lxx

As far as I can find out raw tripe has Vitamin B12,.. for brain, Nervous system, and blood,.. Niacin B3,.. Vitamin E, and Vitamin B6

I cant find it containing anything else,..so personaly I think a dog would need a more vaired diet

Have you tied fish, fish is easily equal to any other meat, and most dogs love it

The trouble is that if a dog has been given a set food for a long time, they get so used to it that they do their very best to resist it
