Old fashion ways

I was talking to a old farmer over the weekend about skin rashes in dogs he came up with a few ideas from the past.

Rock sulpher in dogs water help with itching and with the blood, change weekly
my father always used this.

Sulpher powder sprinked very litely in bedding area will help with fleas and allergys dogs will lick there coat so digest it then

Dont buy expensive cod liver oil go to the horse section at pets at home cost about 11 pound and small amount 2 or 3 times a week will last about a year

this one I really WOULD NOT advice but bathe dog who has fles or mites in a very weak solution of jeyes fluid working from the back lifting coat to the head

He said after working with dogs all his life old fashion remedies are the best and unless a emergency would never pay vets prices x

JUst makes me wonder are our dogs to pampered lol which could have been made things worse over the years Im sure us seniors who can remember knocking icicles from taps, sharing a tin bath in front of the fire on a sunday night for school next day, friday night nit treatment lol and I remember my mother cooking on a coal fire were we poorer but better off

vets were a luxuary my family rarely could afford so all home remedies were tried and tested maybe this old farmer who worked with over a hundered fox hounds has a point x

PAH isn't always the best place to go. The majority of items that they sell can be found A LOT cheaper at your local independent pet shop or farm shop if you have one near you.

So do I. Not always easy to get, though.

Over the years I've always had a bottle or two of Kaolin & Morphine for the odd little tummy upset. It's only a couple of pound for a bottle & a quick squirt of 5ml, morning & evening usually does the trick.

The old remedies are not always recommended though.

I remember reading how to get rid of tapeworms in dogs - starve them for a couple of days then hold a bowl full of warm milk in front of their noses - but don't let them drink. Seemingly the tape worm used to come up out of their mouths!!!

Sounds like something out of a horror movie!!!

Some of the old 'cures' can be downright dangerous.

RainbowLass will become famous soon enough
i think alot can be said for the 'old remedies'
but the best place to start is to move away from a commercial pet food diet. That would cure an awful lot of ills suffered by modern dogs IMO.

I SWEAR by cod liver oil at the mo, get it pretty cheap from my local chemist too.
