Worried about my poorly puppy

Hi everyone,
Just wondered if anyone had any ideas regarding this.
Yesterday Lola went to her first training class, it is held on a big field. After about half an hour I noticed she didn't want to sit on the wet grass and she kept crouching like she was going to do a wee but with her tail slightly raised. When we got home she slept for a good couple of hours. Later I came to walk her and she was keen at first but half way round she was so lethargic and kept laying down. All evening she was licking herself down below and didn't even have the usual mad half hour!
This morning she was constantly licking, her nose was warm and her skin down there was hot and blotchy and she was really feeling sorry for herself. So this afternoon my mum took her to the vets as I was working.
Fifty pounds and eighty pence later we are told she could have cystitis or excema and he even said if she wasn't so young, 13 wks, he would think it was her first season as she is also swollen. Anyway she has antibiotics and antihistamine and he said it should clear up within a week. He didn't think it was anything to do with the field but I'm not so sure.
Tonight, I know it hasn't been long but she still seems really sorry for herself and her skin is still red. Sorry for going on but just worried about her and wondered if anyone had any ideas

Could be some kind of an insect bite? Or a sting? In which case the antihistamines will help, but if she's the same tomorrow I'm afraid I would be taking her back to vet

I hope she's ok, please let us know how she goes on x

Same here. I'd see how she is tomorrow, and if there's no improvement I'd give the vets a ring.

Hope she starts to feel a bit more comfortable soon.

DelsMum has a spectacular aura about
How many doses of drugs has she had? It might take a couple for them to get into her system and start working. Hopefully she'll feel a bit more like her normal self in the morning.

If it is an allergic reaction then the antihistamine should start working very soon, normally after 1 -3 doses, depending on the type/level of allergy. Even if it isn't an allergy, but an infection (ie cystitis), the antihistamine should reduce the discomfort she's feeling fairly quickly.

Thanks for the replies, I have just gone to see her, she was laying at the front door and as she got up there was a small puddle on the w of the welcome mat and it was like a pinky milky fluid? She is still licking and blotchy so I did what I do for the kids and got the sudocrem, I only rubbed a bit in to her skin but it seems to have soothed her straightaway, not sure I should have done it but I just wanted to stop the irritation and give her a bit of peace

LindaM will become famous soon enough
What a worry - I would feel like you too. Is your breeder someone you could talk? There are a lot of people use this forum so hope some more support comes in.

Is this a vet you know and trust? I haven't known a dog come into season at 13 weeks but first seasons can through them into a quandry - off food - my springer was like that, didn't know what on earth was going on. May seem a silly question but presumably you are sure she is 13 weeks and not a bit older - just a thought.

Hoping things get better soon.

Sending you an e-hug and keep posting if you are worried. Let us know how she gets on. Glad the sudocreme gave some relief.

Linda
