Doggy stairlift????

My little princess Sami got me up 4 times last night!!! She usually gets me up at least once to go for a peepee, as some of you know her old bladder isnt what it used to be.

She is getting more wobbly and weak on her back end so I usually help her up the stairs.

The problem is sometimes she likes to stay downstairs for a while in front of her beloved stove she loves it. When she decides she wants to come back up to us the last few days she has really struggled and given up a couple of times. This means that if I hear her (difficult not to she sounds like a freight train) then I get up to help her.

I dont mind really but 4 times is a bit tiring I must admit. I am also really worried about her falling and hurting herself or having a heart attack on the way up but what can I do she loves her independence and I cant bring myself to lock her downstairs.

Tedsmum will become famous soon enough
My sister had the same problem with her 15 year old Golden Retriever.
After he fell down the stairs she decided it was best to put in a child's stair gate to prevent him going up anymore.
It seems a shame but it was the answer for her as she was just so worried he would seriously hurt himself on the stairs.
If she loves being downstairs by the stove, she may not be so bothered about staying there all night.
Bless her. x

ahh poor girl, and poor you too. could you not leave her by the stove for a while if she likes that and just go back down to get her the once, then once upstairs put a gate up or shut the door so she has to stay with you... be a shame if she fell and hurt herself in the night.... give you more rest too..

Think I am going to have to do one of those things soon tbh.

She has a "step" to help her get on the sofa (no she is not spoilt, honest!) she has struggled to get on that tonight, maybe her hips are a bit sore???

yep. would be sensible. i know she likes her independence but she wouldnt have much of that if she fell and was laid up... sometimes things got to change. my grandad is 92 and after a double hip replacement ive hidden his skates to stop him going to roller city

I think really her staying downstairs is probably going to be the answer Lynn, she doesnt mind all that much if the stove is on. I am too soft really I dont like stopping her from going up stairs if she wants to.

Hun I don't blame you, I know I'd feel the same with Deez. It's hard when they are used to staying upstairs with you
