dislocated toe/popped up toe
Has any one had any dealings with this please, this happened today out on a walk and was one of those accidents that you never know how it really happened. The trip to the vet was not a good experiance after being told it may affect his working and if it dose not heal and/or settle may even have to have the end of the toe took off.
So far we are on 2 weeks rest and metacalm and then a review be glad of anyone out there with any experence of the same thing,
Cheers all

Sorry to hear this,..its not something I dont know about, but I would have thought that a dislocation, was simply that, and would simply be a case of `relocating` it to its normal position.
I cant think why it would affect his working, let alone amputation

I agree. But even if it did have to be amputated, it wouldn't affect his working! Dogs adapt so well to anything like that, I mean look at how many 3 legged dogs there are & they're perfectly happy & active.
I think your vet might be exagerating a bit tbh!

cheers all, its only the very tip if the toe which is why they tend not to pop back into position and the nail will now always stick up and get caught on stuff and this is why they were talking about nipin the end off !
good thing is he is already back on it but dont think this will help it heel tho i think its just a matter of time and see how the thing settles down.

Now I can see why they want to nip it off,.. catching in things would be the only way in which this injury would effect him.
.... but once done there will be no difference in his running/working

well thats the boy back to work with a very odd lookin toe !
just keepin an eye on it now for a few months to ensure no lamness or pain, any suffering the vet will nip it off if not he says leave it be and see how we get on.
Apparently this is a common grayhound fault but not so common in GSD's !!
