Hi i dont know Alfie's lines.Arwen had shown some signs of cushings but the vet didnt really think at this stage a test was needed.I went with what that vet advised.I however have another vet and he is a bit more approachable and sometimes i feel that owners are not listened too.I know my dog ,ive spent years researching all possibilities of health problems and made suggestions to the new vet that there is something else wrong with her but not quite sure. She has had numerous infections in her urine and antibiotics did not help.So i ended up using Yeo Valley natural yoghurt in her food.To my delight the vet said i had self healed my dog as all her urine samples are ok now.She has Colitis but that is kept in check with Hills food and no treats .Her recent thyroid test came back very low compared to the last one but infections and illness can disturb this.So given that she is feeling better im hoping the next tests on Sunday will have improved. The vet did however increase her dose by 0.3 mgs.In his opinion immune related problems in such a complex case as her can cause more problems as she gets older and her immune system breaks down ,which in turn takes longer for her to fight any infection. I do know that there is Cushings in her line now and skin allergies and sadly Cancer too.

Just read your posts about Sheba and her skin problems.I have also got one of my dogs that like Alfie has allergies to dust mites. She also has hypothyroidism. My vet wouldn't take thyroid tests when my girl was on her steroids.I had to wean her off them slowly then have the tests done.Because she gets regular check ups and has flare ups on her skin she occasionally is treated with a steroid spray.I have to make sure that the spray is not used when i know she has tests coming up.She was also on Piriton tablets and eventually they stopped working.I found on-line a human prescription for allergies and asked the vet if they used them ,which they would and started giving her them. They helped really well and she finally was able to sleep all through the night without scratching. My bitch has got immune problems and hypothyroidism and i was told that she would be an extremely hard case to treat .But i wasnt prepared to give up just because i was told this and although she will never be free of these problems i have at least managed to get give her some quality of life back.
The dick vets are excellent and i got there with the help of wonderful people ,who where quite happy and willing to fight for my dog as much as i was.So yeah get her there ,you will get alot of answers

Susie
...cheers Susie...got another visit to the vets in next few weeks so will let you know...
