Not eating after being spayed
Hi, was hoping for some reassurance??
Sky was spayed on Friday and when she came home she was very sleepy as expected, she did drink but no food as she wasn't interested. On Saturday Sky was much brighter and did eat very small amounts of foood and a few treats, was drinking and did small poo's. However on Sunday morning she was sick and had the runs, and since then although no more sickness and her poo is back to normal she has only eaten very small amounts of food, when fed by hand, she will not eat from her bowl. Have tried all her favourite food to no avail.
Sky 'looks' depressed!!!!
Sky is a re-home and has only been with us for 2 months but is very much part of the family and has settled with us very well.
Spoke with the vet and they are not unduly concerned as she is having very small amounts to eat, is drinking and can wee & poo....... but.... I AM WORRIED.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so how did you get yours to eat and when??
Sky is booked in for her check up with the vet on Friday at 9.10.
Any help or re-assurance will be gratefully received.

If she looks depressed and you are worried I would make an appointment with the vet and get her checked over.
You are the one who knows the dog best. Follow your instinct.
She may have an infection or something and may need antibiotics.
If she is OK at least it will put your mind at rest so it will not be a wasted journey.

I hope Sky is okay - do you have the means to check her temperature?
Sorry, I've no experience with this but when we had my Mum's dog neutered he took a good week before he stopped moping and started to eat again so hopefully Sky is just feeling a bit down and she'll be okay soon. And we took him to the vets every other day until he perked up, just in case - can never be too careful IMO.
All the best - please keep us posted as to Sky's progress. xx

I think I would be taking her back to see the vet too. She should have an appetite by now, they should recover pretty quickly from a spey. She might just have a wee infection. Keep us posted

I would take her back. It's normal for them to be off their food for a day or so, but any longer than that's a bit of a worry. Is she still on painkillers? It's possible that they are disagreeing with her & making her feel a bit queezy?

A good healthy dog should be feeling normal within 48 hours at the most,..she clearly knows that something is up, that depressed look is her way of telling you,.. GS are mostly very bright and will brush off most upsets very fast

Hi, Thank you all for your help, I have an appt with the vets later today so will let you know, however, hubby and I took both Sky and Cada for a walk in the usual local park and she was like her normal self again, although she was on the lead she absolutely loved it, we had taken her for a short walk on Sunday (not to the park as need to go by car to get there) but she obvisously needed to get back to her normal routine...........and..........she had a few bits to eat!! was over the moon, not loads but some and out of her bowl. She has also had a little this morning so maybe on the road to recovery?? will still get her checked with the vet just to be sure but looking good?
Once again Thank you
Carol

That's great news that Sky seems to be feeling better. Maybe she just takes a little longer to recover than some others. Each dog is different I guess.
Hope she continues to get better..x

Hi again
Sky has been checked and she is OK, big sigh of relief...........they think she is just feeling a bit sorry for herself but nothing physically wrong with her.
I think she is just missing her long walks that she usually has every day and all the playing that the two of them have but are not allowed to do for a while. I know I shouldn't wish time away but roll on next week when she can have her stitches out and 'normal' life can resume.
Thank you once again for you help and wishes.
