ideal weight?!

Just wondering what the 'ideal' weight is for a 3 year old long haired male german sheperd?
My dog Max used to be 47kg but ive cut his portions because he was getting a big bootie lol.
Been to the vets today about something different and he was weighed at 42kg and they said hes slightly over weight. yet when he was 47kg two months ago they didnt mention him being overweight...this has confused me.
I feed him twice a day and the only treats he gets are carrots (x2 a day) and a denta stick first thing on a morning. he also has 1-2 walks a day.

It's hard to say. A lot depends on his frame.

If you can't see a rib or two when he's running around he might be too fat.

Sorry just checked and saw he is long haired, so if you can't feel his ribs like a washboard he may be too fat.

The ideal weight depends greatly on the individual dog IMO.

You should be able to easily feel the ribs without having to fight your way through coverage.

My male is 2, and long haired, and is around 31kg, and is about right weight-wise, so it differs greatly on dog to dog

As everyone has said much depends on the size of your dog, frame etc. I have a 3 year old longhaired GSD who weighs in at 40kg and I would say he is just right. Not an ounce of fat on him, fit as a fiddle - but not underweight either.

Jackson is 10 months old... 30kgs on the button is 26.5 inches tall... he's longer coated and has a rib covering. I expect him to fill out a bit...

I agree with the others, I don't pay much attention to weights really, it's how the dog looks and feels that's important..x
