lexi's trip to th vets

Hi Guys

hope you are all well

Lexi is driving me mad bless her lol poor sod wants a good run which she is still not allowed to do

Was just wondering if anyone could help me we went to the vets again for what we thought was the final check up but nurse had a look at the incision and told us it has healed and all looks ok but it is very swollen and a bit stinky but still she tells me its not infected does this sound ok she is back again in a week but the smell is weird and it has two tiny lumps on

its weird but im just worried incase she should be on antibiotics, i would taker her back but we have been back 4 times since she had the op in two weeks

She has also told us that is has healed and the cone is ok to come off but she still wants to lick it is this ok as it has a film across the top

Thanks for the advice

Liz

Clean it with saltwater Mike.

Sounds like the nurse thought it was infected doesnt it???

I would clean it a couple of times a day and see how she goes. If she is still worrying at it when its supposed to be healed that might suggest an infection too.

Is this after a spay op? Sorry haven't been about so don't know what the op was for :-)
If so then Bonnie had the same on her incision, it didn't smell but did have the lumps. I cleaned it with saltwater and just kept an eye on it, it healed up just fine xxx

If it smells Mike it's infected + she needs ABs, I would have to insist on them.

also if she still wants to lick you need to leave lampshade on.

The lumps will go away, I'd be worried about the infection

ps bathe in salt water or a few drops of hibiscrub, if the water is pink you've put too much hibiscrub in, only need a few drops

thanks guys was worried it was infected but she didnt say it was so i guess i was right

Im going to clean it with salt water tonight & tomorrow morning and if it still smells then im going back to the vets on Tuesday

Im not impressed with my vets at all, i have a feeling it should have just been stitched in the first place as the wound is longer and it has had so much trouble healing

The lumps im not worried about now thanks but I will defo keep my eye on it incase it gets worse

And the cone is back on now and will stay on for the next couple of days

think a new vets is in order

I will say im impressed with her increase appetite and the 1 kg she has put on lol

Thanks

Liz

I hope Lexi is okay. Maybe your vet is being a bit relaxed about the whole thing. Does sounds like she could have a bit of an infection. How is she today?

It's a bit different but when Hamish was neutered he had quite a big solid lump near his wound but gradually it went down - the vet said it was normal, can't remember exactly what he said it was though.

Hi Liz when I lived your way I used Michael Gourley good vet - not frightened of GSDs as so many are lol
are if you dont mind travelling I can recommend my own vet at Manchester Street surgery - they are great with my dogs and honest wont do something if it doesnt need doing, and will tell you if an animal requires being pts for the animals best interest not owners
