Please don't be offended by the replies. They are well meant & given after a lot of experience helping others with pups with poor health. Your post sounded as though you had not bred before & the answers were given accordingly. Also, there are health problems within this breed that you would have to be fully aware of, not just in your own bitch but in her ancestors.

Thank you.

Just to make this abundantly clear I am thankful for the replies however the initial replies (senior members)? - I felt were based upon assumptions & not generally in the way of a welcoming manner to the forum but hey ho that is my problem then I guess.
Assumptions again made about where she came from - yes she is KC registered yes they are genuine papers & I have been in touch with the KC.
This was also a genuine re -homing due to an elderly couple who could not cope following sudden illness and operation.
For your information we are not going to breed from her / breeding lines fine/ hip score fine.
I have bred dogs in the past & was checking out the age as obviously a concern.
enough said - I could go on

I did not make assumptions as I did not read your other thread, from your initial post it sounded like a wind up! who in their right mind would even consider breeding from a 6yr old novice bitch?
You say hips fine what is the score? and areas scored in ? what about elbows?
You say lines are fine then what are they? what is her kC name? do you actually know whether there are any hidden genetic faults in her ancestory? or are you just assuming, i presume she has been deliberately bred for colour/coat length if so you will be supprised what is there?

I suppose we are all very painfully aware of how many beautiful dogs and puppies are in rescue and waiting for homes. None of us are keen to encourage anyone to potentially add to that number.
We all have one thing in common and that is that we LOVE this breed and want the best for it.
That includes trying to advise others when it is a good or bad idea to breed from their dog.
Your initial post did sound as if you were a novice at breeding and we have had many other posts here that have started the same way.
Forgive those of us who fiercely protect our wonderful breed.

I am guessing this was directed at me!
I did make assumptions, because this was your very first post on the site, I made sure of that before commenting. I was only offering my advice, and like I said before, if you don't want to listen, that is entirely up to you. I was giving my opinion on what sounded to me like someone wanting to have a go at breeding for the first time! You admitted that you were a novice owner of GSD. And from what you wrote, I was unsure of whether you knew about the health problems of the breed! I was simply stating facts! If you take it the wrong way then I cannot help that! I have owned a dog that was "pedigree", but had been the result of ill breeding, I coped, many owners would just give up and dump the dog. Maybe if you read through some of the posts on here from people who have lost dogs at an early age because of genetic problems, or are nursing dogs with illness and serious health problems, maybe then you might realise why many people on this forum are so passionate about the breed, and want the best for it! I will remove myself from this thread now as I have clearly offended you, but felt it only right to follow up my initial post!

Well said Laura!
You're right you only need to read some of the posts on here to see the pain that some people have had to go through.....we all care so much that we don't want more puppies and owners to go through the same trauma.
Plus if you had bred dogs before why ask if a 6yr old is too old, surely that's too old regardless of what breed is it not? Please correct me if I'm wrong anyone though.....
