Strange tail growth

We were brushing Ole earlier this evening and found something on his tail we've not noticed before. At first we thought it was a bit of twigg stuck in his tail fur but on closer examination what ever it is seems to be growing from the skin. Being mid/long haired with quite a bushy tail it's quite well hidden. He's doesn't seem to be in any pain with it, he's never liked his tail brushing! I had a close look at it and was able to touch/move it without any objection and even managed to clip a little from the end to see if I could work out what it was. It seems similar consitancy to claw clippings!

I'd say it was about 15cm from the tip of his tail, about 15mm long and 3-4mm round, it's seems to be growing out of the skin at one end running towards the tip, anyone any idea what it could be? Trip to the vets on Monday is looking favorite!

Cheers

That sounds like a lot like somthing my Max has on his tail. It is a plug of keratinized/dead skin cells containing pigment, basically a black head! Usually you can pop them right out but they tend to come back and they may get infected. If you google "dog comeodone" you should be able to see if it like what your seeing or not...hope that helps x
