If anyone has any tips for keeping the weight off a hyperthryroid de-sexed seven year old gsd please let me know. I've reduced her food and she has a waist - am just finding it difficult to get her down to her target weight. With the exception of the puppycinno that she has once a week she rarely has treats. She's excercised every day.

Thank you!
Aww I love that your furbabies are celebraties Diesel had his photo taken in the high street last weekend by a lady who wanted her kids to be stood next to a big dog

Sorry I don't have any advice about diet but hopefully someone on here will.

Aww he sounds such a sweetie.....I'm going to have to measure Diesel tonight to see how tall he is, he's quite leggy for a GSD and for years he was so gangly It will be great watching how Bandit grows.

Lily's just turned 9 months and she weighs around 25kg... haven't measured her height yet as she's a twisty turny fiend!. When I took her to Vet last week to have her kennel cough vaccine the vet said she was in very good nick - you can't see her ribs but you can feel them ...

She's a bit of a poorly pup at the moment, probably due to being in season and more likely due to the fact that she caught a toad!! (was a bit barfy day before yesterday but starved her yesterday (no more sick!) and gave her a small amount of brekkie today - which she ate with gusto - had a good throwing the ball session in the back garden earlier and she's more perky than of late.. hopefully all taste of toad gone out of system!

Sounds like Lily's just fine then if you can feel but not see her ribs. Sorry to hear she's taken a liking to toads , let's hope that as it made her sick she'll avoid now!!

Welcome to the forum btw....don't forget to introduce yourself to everyone, we'd love to see pics of Lily

Luika weighs 4 stone and is nearly 6 months old, sorry have no idea about kgs. I still work on the old fashioned weights and mesures lol.

We are trying to slow his growth rate down however, in order to strengthen his back legs.

Weight has been a bit of an issue for my oldest boy.

I won't bore you with the finer points, but summing up he has been attacked ALOT, he's an all black large lad and at the time was entire. Due to these attacks he became fear aggressive, can't blame him either! Anyhoo, we opted to put him on a drug called Ovarid to calm him (this is a female hormone that overrides male hormones, help to promote calm, this is a really basic explanation!), the one side effect is weight gain. He weighed in at 38kg and was always lovely looking at that weight. After a bout or two of Ovarid his weight shot up to 47kg!!!! It took me about 8 months to bring his weight down, and he has now settled back at 41kg and looks fab.

It might interest you to know that during all this I was informed that you should not only feel the ribs for a guide, but also feel the fat platelet that sits between the front legs, start of chest wall, this should be taut across, with only a little skin 'give', fat can easily be felt and if too much a decrease in food is in order!

Our little lady is 7 months and on last weigh in (fortnight or so ago) was 28kg...she's a lump...I'll get some photos up when I figure out how to resize!
