jake got to have xray

I took Jake to the vet yesterday i noticed he was panting a lot the vet gave him an injection to help him breathe easier and he is booked in on monday for an xray , the vet said his heart sounds ok but wants a chest xray , Jake cant be anetheised so they going to sedate him but i have to leave him all day and last time he was left i got a phone call to pick him up because he got so distressed because i had left him .
Jake has cdrm and epilepsy and now this
im so worried for him im going to be so stressed out over the weekend waiting for this xray , the vet said sometimes they pant when they are in pain and we have to wait all weekend and he might be in pain and i dont know if he is , he seems ok he looks happy but he is sleeping more than normal , i wish i knew why he is panting does anyone have any ideas what it could be ?

I'm so sorry to read that Jake's not right, I can imagine how stressed you will be feeling over the weekend. Can the vet not x-ray him today if he thinks he could be in pain??

I really hope he's not pained and that you get to the bottom of it quickly. Unfortunately I have no idea why he would be panting

Please keep us posted...xx

Just a long shot, what is the weather like around you? Is it close and possibly thunder storms? He could be anticipating thunder etc.

Also is he still entire? Could there be a bitch in season nearby? My dog sometimes pants alot if there is a bitch in season nearby and he is picking up the scent on walks - he cannot scream to go out nowadays as he is 13 - the mind is keen but the body sadly is not cooperating!

It could be he is in pain, but it could also be one of the things I have mentioned.

I am sure if the vet thought he was in alot of pain he would have given you more urgent treatment and/or painkillers.

Is he eating and drinking?

Sue

thanks for your replies i did ask the vet if it was the weather but he said no there is something wrong , i even had to hold his mouth shut while the vet listened to his chest and Jake was struggling to breath with his mouth shut , he has been castrated he is 13 + now and dosent go out for walks around the streets because of his cdrm i dont like to walk him on concrete as his feet bleed, he lives with holly our female dog and is not bothered about her she has been done though . he is eating and drinking
im sure like you said if he was in a lot of pain they would have done something urgently
i will let you know what happens after his xray i suppose im just panicing a bit

My heart goes out to you at this very sad time.

We had our 13 year old put to sleep just before December last year, so I know exactly what you are going through.

I am sure all our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thank you so much for your support and kind words its been one hell of a weekend my heart has been breaking , but Jake is still alive
i took him to the vet and she said he is happy and not in pain so why should i have him put to sleep , she said from a vets point of veiw she would do an xray but from her point not as a vet she wouldn't as whatever the outcome he is happy so why not let him enjoy himself while he can , she has been treating jake and knows him so i took her word and brought him home , i checked with her that he was in no pain she said his panting is not a sign of pain he is just an old man and with his cdrm he has to work harder so will get tired faster , the vet i saw on thursday a locum had me convinced jake was in pain and all weekend ive been a mess making the decision to have him put to sleep . i always thought i would know when it was time and even though i nearly had him put to sleep in my heart i knew it wasnt time .

Give Jake a big hug from me....I am so pleased you & your little boy are still together. It's always nice to have a vet you can totally trust and what a relief for you that he's not in pain.

Lynn
