Insurance renewal
Hi Guys
I have just had my Insurance renewal in for Keera and was shocked to see it had gone up by £7 a month. Just of the phone to Sainsbury's where I have been informed that because of the age of the dog (she is only 4) and also premiums have gone up this is the reason but her parting shot was of course you own a German Shepherd so it has gone up.
Has anyone else experienced their insurance going up this year because they own a German Shepherd? Also I have never made a claim (thank goodness).
I just wondered if anyone else had been given this as an excuse this year.

Hi Jackie
I'm with Sainsbury's and Diesel is going to be 4 this year....his monthly premium is now £27!!!!!!!!!! I was also told it was because of his breed. I am dreading the renewal next year....I'm definitely going to look around.
I have made 1 claim and that was for his x-rays for Pano nearly 3 years ago.
It's disgusting, I feel they are making the most of the fact that you need insurance due to the ever rising vet bills.
Anyone recommend another good insurer?
Lynn

I have had my Golden Retriever insured for the past 5 years with E and L Insurance. I have the lowest cover but I think it's plenty enough. I pay £11 for my GR and £7 for my GS. Had to put in a few claims over the years and never had any problem with their service. They also give a discount for two or more dogs.
Hope this helps.

We've just moved from E&L, they really weren't very good for us at all.
When Bo was a pup we had all sorts of things going on, so plenty of claims going through, they took weeks and weeks to let us know the underwriter was looking into our claim, on all occasions we had to contact them and find out what was going on.
When Roo came home we extended her 6 weeks free insurance with Pet Plan and have gone the whole hog, all singing all dancing, which turns out to be the best option considering she's since been diagnosed with HD!!! We pay a fair amount for the two and get a very small discount for having two on the policy.
I think it's luck of the draw to be honest! Go with what suits your needs.

It certainly seems to be luck of the draw....I'll have to do some research for the next renewal.

Gone to Tesco
I have now moved my insurance to Tesco but I guess by the time I get a quote for next year - they too will also have put up their prices.
What annoyed me most about Sainsbury's was the attitude of the customer services person and also the amout of advertising they are doing at the moment on TV regarding their pet insurance obviously they were not interested even when I said I would be looking about for another insurance company.
Oh well now that I have got that off my chest it is nearly the weekend - Great.

Well let's hope other people leave and go with another insurer that'll make them sit up & listen....glad you've found someone else though.

I got Ben my lab insured with Tesco's when he was 6 months at the cost of £7.11 he is now 9 and only mad one claim due to lumbs (commen in labs) they turned out to be fat but my premium this year is £16.
Kahless is with Tesco aswell but I took the excel package at just under £10 due to an online deal, 40% off.
When I need to claim they were very good and gave me an answer straight away.

Yes we too were with Sainsbury's, but when Zak was put to sleep last year, I decided when we got another dog, I would try another company for the reasons you have stated.
We looked on google for a price comparison and best companies and Tesco came out with 4 out of 5 stars. We only had our cat for 4 weeks when we claimed since she had to have the majority of her teeth out. Tesco paid up with no problems, and we currently pay £20.00 for 2 cats and 1 dog a month.
Hope that helps.
