Hi Seaneylad.

All the dogs I have ever had have done this bum scraping thing from time to time. I think its something to do with their anal sacs. Im no Vet & dont claim to be, but I wouldnt worry too much, just keep an eye on it .

Anal Furunculosis has small lesions around the opening,
very sore.

I dont mean to sound vulgare, but have you had a look at it, & cleaned up any mess around that area ?

ATB.

Jenny

Hi Seaneylad.

Yeah, I have heard that some folk do go to Vets for it to be drained. Personally, I have never had to go or do it myself. I suppose it all depends on the severity.

Best of luck, I hope Bruno is ok.

Jenny

Could be nothing- Del has a 'scoot' on the grass in the garden from time to time and has done for the last 7 years. I figured he just has an itch sometimes!

I have heard about people having to have their dogs anal glands emptied regularly but have no experience of it. Del had it done once by a vet who INSISTED it was causing the little scabby patch of fur he sometimes gets on his back by the base of his tail. Of course it wasn't but it didn't seem to have any ill effect. They weren't very full either apparently so it was a pointless exercise!

Hi Sean: 5 month old puppy is too young to experience this problem, however he could very well have worms, either tapeworms or hookworms most common in puppies. If you look at his butt and see what looks like little rice grain you are dealing with hookworms, my GS pup(she is now 6 months old), pooped around the time she was 4 months and she had these awful looking strands of spagetti moving around, yep she had tape worms. That said, my advice is to take her/him to the vet.
He is also too young to have problems with his anal glands. Let me know how it goes. Jewelyn

Hi Jenny,

Mina is doing well right now. She is off the Cyclo, only takes an antacid 2/day, + Benadryl daily. Also keep her butt cleaned, wash it with baby wipes morning and night, if I see redness then I apply cortisone cream with Aloe. She becomes allergic to food quickly so right now she is on fish & potato but looks as if she no longer wants it so I will have to find something else. Dogs with this condition have tummy issues as well as allergies. Jewelyn

Hi Jewelyn
not all dogs with AF have stomache issues my dog with this condition can eat anything and it doesnt upset his stomache, the only time he has been loose in his life was when he managed to raid the food bin and eat nearly 5kg of food at one sitting.

Hi Jewelyn.

Great news regarding Mina hey.

Yeah, my Max was on a prescription diet for his tummy.

My girl Heidi who is Atopic is on a light diet at the moment of boiled pork & potato. She too went off fish & potato, it upset her tummy.

Best of luck Jewelyn, hope Mina continues to improve.

Jenny.

hes 6 months now and just bee the vet now as is skin looked a little irrated

so had given us some ash to wash his belly, as he lies in everything and needs to be washed as he said his skin is sensitive.

also he has had his anal gland emptied, he said they were quite full, he said it mayb be a one off, but could me monthly. he suggested using bran flakes mixed in his meals as it bulks out him 'poop' so they empty b them selves ...

Thats good news then, so no serious problems to worry about for Bruno.

Give him a big cuddle from me, bless him.
