Sorry i feel bad for listing all of the things which CAN POSSIBLY relate to HD, my mums dog sometimes runs with his hind legs together aswell and is perfectly fit and healthy with no hip problems. x

i really wish i read a post like this years ago.if i would have read something like this,i would have known my german shepherd cross belgian shepherd dino was suffering from it.and perhaps helped her more.all we started doing for the lasst 5 years, was give her joint care supliaments and treat things.when she was going for her routine jabs, all the vet ever mentioned was she had a bit of artheritis. it would have even been helpful if the vet had explained things better to us.

medication daily
Our German shepherd, brought back from Australia with us..
We make his quality of life better with a few less walks/runs a week, made easier for him by daily medication. 1 tramadol pill in the morning and 30ml of Metacam, followed by 1 tramadol pill in the evening. He is much happier and less in pain as a result. Ask your local vet for advice on this. It does'nt make him drowsy or anything, just easier for him to exercise without being in pain.
We decided it was the better option than spending 1000's on the operation.
Although we may still have the operation done in the future if we can afford it.
Rich.

Hi Rich I think you have the dosage wrong there for the Metacam as 100ml will last several weeks,
if you are refering to the 30 on the syringe that equates to dosage for a 30kg dog

My girl was found to have this in January after she had a slip on some ice and didnt recover they looked further into it and found she had HD.
She is currently on tramadol and PLT and is coming along leaps and bounds, I think the warm weathers helping.
