Hi John he will be fine both Zandi and 1 of his brothers have ED, Zandi didnt need an operation but his brother did and had extra pieces of bone removed he wasnt scored as the operation was done before he was 12mth old, Zandi was scored and as an elbow score of 3, he is now 4yrs old and as always been fine. I used cosequin DS to prevent further deterioration of the cartilage in the elbows, no problem with his movement untill this year when he severed tendons and a vein in his front leg he will now not fully put that leg down, although it only happened at the end of March so hopefully he will use it fully soon, it doesnt top him chasing the ducks and rabbits though.

Just an update for anyone who's interested.
Max had his stitches out yesterday. What a performance in the vets, you'd have thought he was having his leg off!!!!
Anyway the wound has healed well and looks clean and tidy. He just has a sore patch on the front of the leg where I had put extra sticking plaster on to keep the wound covered.
Max does lick this sore patch occasionally. When he does i just put his lampshade back on for a while.
He is still on pain relief (Metacam) but occasionally he walks without limping now. I just hope we have turned another corner.
I am still walking him for 5 minutes 4 or 5 times a day. I may increase this a bit if his limp continues to improve.
Thanks for all your support and previous good wishes,
John

Max
Hi John.
Great news that the wound is healing. They are big softies hey when they have stitches taken out, mine have been the same in the past.
GSDs are such sensitive wee souls hey.
Keep us posted on how he goes on. Max is a real handsome boy, & you must be very proud of him.

Just an update on Max.
He spent Friday and Saturday night at the kennels (while we went to a wedding) but was very timid apparently retiring to the back of his enclosure when anyone came near. This surprised me as he is always so outgoing when at home. He does bark at people when they come to our house but once in and settled he is just a big softie. They did say that he had been eating and drinking alright but on arrival at home he completely emptied his water bowl so I have my doubts.
Max is very "clingy" at the moment but once he realises that we're staying I think he will settle back into "life before kennels".
He's still limping and on collecting him from the kennels I noticed that the fluid lump on his leg has got smaller but gone harder. I've got him booked in at the vet tomorrow for a check. I'll let you know how we get on.
By the way the wedding in Devizes (what a lovely part of the country as I'm in industrial Manchester) was excellent.
Cheers,
John
