Been back to the vet tonight. Lump on leg is fine - just part of the healing process.

Max has however got a small cut below a nail on his front left leg and a scrape under one of his back legs. I think he must have got these due to his frightened and retiring behaviour during his stay in the kennels, he must have been terrified I think. Any way it's antibiotics for 10 days and hopefully all be well and any infection cleared up.

We are back at the surgeon in two weeks so I will report back then.

Cheers,

John

Max's leg- I have same problem

Hi, I just read your post about Max and my dog has exactly the same thing. He had X rays yesterday (nothing found) and they have now been sent of to a Specialist. He is on another dose of Rimadyl, and he is still very active considering he's got a limp!! Did you get to see the Xrays and how long did you have to wait 'til you got the results back? I just want to know what's wrong so we can get it sorted , I'm sure you feel exactly the same !!

Hi Hannah,

They were very quick where I go. We saw the specialist about 4 or 5 days after getting referred. The specialist took further x-rays and the operation followed about 5 days later. Max was advised to have very limited exercise so don't let yours run around just in case the complaint is the same as Max's.

It's now 5 weeks after Max's op and we are going for on lead walks, 10 minutes at at time 3 or 4 times a day. The limp still comes back as we are getting to the end of the walk but he is making progress. I hope all goes well for you and your dog. Try not to worry too much but i know its hard not to.

Been back to the vet today and i am happy to report that Max's recovery is going well. I explained to the vet that he is still limping after a 10 minute walk and he told me that this is normal. He has put Max back on the Metacam and advised me to up the walking by 5 minutes every couple of weeks. He has enough Metacam for 6 weeks and we have to go back in 8 weeks when recovery should be complete.

Max was better at the vets today and only barked a bit!!!!!!!!

I will keep you informed as we progress.

Cheers,

John

My Frost had the same thing happen. My specialist had me put him on 1000 mg Glucosimine daily for life. (take into account frost is the size of a small great dane 28in at shoulder) He is 3yrs now, cold days are the worst for him. He is alowed to rop and play at his own pace but never forced exersize. It is a shame because his is a wonderful smart boy who can do anything. But he is now just momma's best pet dog ever. Hope your boy does well!!! Best Wishes
