We're a couple more weeks into Max's recovery and I don't want to tempt fate but the limp is all but gone now. Max is still on the metacam and I am giving him cod liver oil and glucosamine every day. He also gets a tin of sardines in sunflower oil 3 times a week.

We are up to 15 minute walks three times a day at the moment. I let him off lead on the field the other day as there was nobody around. I kept within about 5 metres of him so he couldn't run around but it was a joy to see him move at natural dog pace after the months of on lead mooching!

We are taking it steady at the moment, just hoping that he continues improving until we go back to the vet in early October.

Cheers,

John

Well Everybody, I hope this is the last time I have to post on this thread. Max and I have been back to the specialist this morning and we have been passed fit. The vet had a good look at him and said the joint has healed well but would always be more susceptible to arthritis in later life. I explained our present exercise regimen which he said was good and it's now just a matter of time to build him back up. The muscle mass is starting to come back on the affected thigh so all looking good. Overall he said Max looked well - coat and weight good etc. He also mentioned that he's a bit boisterous (can't think why ).

The vet has given us 120 Seraquin (Glucosamine and Chondroitin) tablets to take at the rate of 3 a day - Max not me!!!! We have to return to our own vet in 6 weeks for a final check.

As you can imagine I'm mighty relieved and happy that we can progress (slowly) to the next level.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the advice and support I have received during this worrying time.

Cheers,

John
