Max's Front Right Leg

Hi Everyone,

Not been on here for a while but I thought you make like to know of Max's plight. Max is just over 6 months old and brother of Sully.

Around 6 - 8 weeks ago Max started limping for no apparent reason. It was at first thought that my son had stood on his foot but this was quickly dismissed. After leaving it for 2 or 3 days I took him to the vet who prescribed Rimadyl and rest. To cut a long story short after several courses of painkillers and some x-rays (which were inconclusive) we were referred to a bone specialist who took further x-rays after which we were told Max had a condition known as OCD.

Max had surgery earlier this week (Tuesday) where a piece of boney material about the size of a childs milk tooth was removed. He wears a lampshade at night (see picture below) but we leave it off when we are around and just keeep an eye out that he is not trying to remove the plaster covering his stitches.

Max doesn't realise that he has had surgery and although still limping (the vet said the limp would be worse than before at first) is always ready for his short 5 minute walks around the block. I am taking him 4 or 5 times a day for the first 2 weeks, then 10 minutes for the next 2 weeks and finally up to 15 minutes for last two weeks. (These walk times are up for review if progress is not as good as expected). We then take Max back to the specialist who hopefully will tell us we are on the road to recovery.

I know I have rambled on and it's not the nicest subject but I thought it may be of interest to some.

Cheers,

John

Hope he recovers soon. The limited walks can be a nightmare. Cognac has 'Pano' & is on five minutes a day, lead walking. He used to have 45 minutes 3 times a day. When it's sunny he sits in the garden with the hose pipe & loves it. When the weathers bad he gets bored. Luckily i'm off work at the mo, so I can spend more & more time with him.

As said hope your guy gets a full & swift recovery!

Poor little soul when all he probably wants to do is run around and play..... and poor you it must be very distressing to be going through this with him. Freddie sends him a big hug for a speedy and not too frustrating recovery

Thanks for all your good wishes.

Max does seem to be getting better and limping less (although this may just be wishful thinking). He is still on pain relief after the operation so it remains to be seen how things go when its all gone.

I will keep you posted as we progress.

Cheers,

John
