Epilepsy research uk

For those wishing to help but want to remain anonymous please contact Bryan McLaughlin

All research is undertaken in complete confidence. The identity of all samples submitted to the research effort will be kept confidential and the results from individual dogs will only be shared with the dog's owner(s), once the research has been completed.

We are collecting samples from dogs that are:

* Affected with idiopathic epilepsy * Closely related to a dog that is affected with idiopathic epilepsy * Unaffected with epilepsy and over 7 years of age.

If you have a dog or dogs that meet any of the above criteria then we would very much appreciate a sample from them.

To request a free swab kit or sample submission form, please contact our sample manager, Bryan McLaughlin (bryan.mclaughlin@aht.org.uk) indicating the number of kits you require and your full postal address.

Epilepsy Research UK

Hi, Pam

Thanks for the information. I have requested a kit, as Boo is over 7 and not epileptic, so he falls within the criteria.

Hopefully this terrible condition can be investigated and eventually eradicated all together.

Chris

Thank you Pam, I hope a lot of people concerned decide to participate.
I'm now reading up on that particular condition after I've read through that topic on pedigree database about the epileptic dogs. I wish I hadn't, as my 20 month old bitch is a direct descendant of that particular male DH identified as the source of the trouble. Now I'm trying not to think about the "what if", and I really hope he is wrong.

Ours are done too

Hi Brian
We have two GSD'S one female 11yrs old, one male 6 this year, we would like to particapate in your Epilepsy research
If you feel the 6 yr old is relevent you can send me two swab kits if not just the one.Would it be wise to suggest it done at a vets as to be sure of true identification. re-tattoo or chip.

Many years ago we sent you bloods from two males for parenting testing for a litter of puppies, don't know how long you keep such things, but feel free to use it if you have it available.

Regards
Joyce Stephenson
