Bear is back!!!

I think I have totally under estimated the strength of feeling amongst you all!!!! Thank you so much for all your messages, I am so touched.

Well, as the title suggests, Bear is back! She is healed, stronger and a complete delight.

We are almost up to 4 weeks since her terrible accident where she managed to impale herself of a fence post, causing quite signifcant injuries, so much so, the vets still goes on about it!! She was talk of the Animal hospital for some time!!! She has been through a terrible time, getting better, then going down hill again, but I am pleased to report that I think she is well on the road to recovery.

I took her back to the vet on Monday just gone to have a large, avacado shaped lump checked out. They examined her in the waiting room as not to stress her, and they said it was a normal part of the healing process, where any cavity on the body naturally needs to be filled with something and the fluid that has gathered just turned into fibrous tissue. They said not to worry and didn't charge me for the exam!!!! (Should think not - they have already had nearly 2 grand off me!!!)

We started walking Bear last weekend which she really appreciated, but tired easily. I was terrified of the woods, so kept to the open areas. SHe is very clumsy and think that is due to the muscles aving to re-organise themselves. So she falls over alot!!

I have since taken her to Bedelands Nature Reserve in Burgess HIll, don't know if any of you know it, beautiful, and we discovered she has a terrible phobia of bridges now!!! Quite strange, as I don't remember crossing one the day of the accident. She is also afraid of the hoover, where as she used to play with it when I hoovered the house!!

She is a totally different dog now, very wary, and very clingy but I think that is to be expected. But also very loving. It has made me re-think re-homing her for now. We are very bonded and I am really enjoying her at the moment, but if the right family happened to come along, then I may re-consider, but for now I can't think about it. There is still a huge toss up between what is best for her and best for me, but for now we are happy.

My neighbour is great and is happy to pop in to let her out if I am working so the guilt has eased a little when I take on work.

So, all good I would say. I am happier and far less stressed. Madly in love and looking forward to the future. Still a long way to go with the kids and the divorce, but summer is coming and things always look better in the sunshine!!!!

So sorry for not responding earlier. I was so behind with work (im also a part time picture framer) and reports for my other job after speninding all my time looking after Bear, that I had to catch up on all that, and I stupidly thought you might have all had enough of me bleating on about Bear!!!! How wrong was I!!!!

I shall be staying on here, and am truley grateful for all your messages. Your a really great bunch.

Take care.

Me and Bear. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So good to hear about Bear's recovery and that you're enjoying being with her. Excellent that your neighbour is helping out too.

That is excellent news, am so pleased for you and glad she has pulled through, I think we were all worried and concerned on here.

Whats also great is that you have bonded even more with your lovely girl, this often happens when a dog is ill, and the love and care you gave her throughout all this will be repaid 100 times over, this is only just the beginning.

Well done and love to you both xxxxxxx

Brilliant news.
As mad as this sounds, maybe it took her injury for you to realise how much you do love her

This is brilliant news, we were all wondering and hoping for the best and it seems we,.. and you now have that.

It was a terrible accident, but what has come out of it is very unique, the bond between you and Bear is so important and has clearly grown,.I said once before that you need Bear as much as she needs you, and I dont think that `perfect family` will ever be found, because the longer you two are together, the deeper that bond grows.

Bear will always be the most loyal friend you will ever have,.. and there is no equal to that in any dog,..its a great success story, and a credit to the vets too

I think you are right . I fell in the woods the other day, and she came running back to help bless her. I wasn't hurt - well perhaps my pride!! But ended up laughing with her as I slipped slowly down a bank on my knees in the mud with Bear clinging onto my coat!!!

What a pair we are!!!

Think you might be right - although I wish she would move off my feet so I can get some work done!!!!
I do feel happier, happier with life in general, and it obviously shows in what I write. Hadn't realised I sounded such a miserable shit!!!!!!
Right - Bear - off my feet - must get on!!!!!
