You need to be much firmer with people come up to stroke her. When I go out with Clay is someone comes up and just starts stroking him I will just smile and then walk away, yes it is rude but I know I personally would never just walk up to a dog and start stroking it, you don't know the dogs temperment or anything so people like that I will walk away from, including children. Children and petting strange dogs can be a real nightmare but luckily a lot of the children who've petted Clay have asked or had their parents there so he's had a lot of attention in that sense.
If someone stops and starts talking I will then put him in a sit position and explain to them that he's in training and to just bare with me a second as I'm teaching him not to jump up etc. Generally people don't mind and it gives them a chance to see how well trained the dog is. Clay hasn't jumped up at a stranger yet so fingers crossed its working.
It's even working off the lead, he will sit at the strangers feet now and look up waiting to be petted - sure, it's not ignoring strangers completely yet but it's better then jumping up I guess.

You are so right, I must be firmer and really get to grips with this issue.
Thanks for the advice.

I know, meeting strangers is a difficult one because they don't know your training methods. The number of people who want to fuss my pup Zee and when she jumps up they stroke her! Great, undo all the training I've done ignoring that behaviour! I say if she jumps turn away, ignore her, but some people don't get that.

Pulling when she sees another dog is easy... you just turn and go the other way, and when she's got her attention back on you and isn't pulling, you treat her. She needs to learn that pulling to the other dog means you don't get to that dog!

Never let her greet another dog like this or she'll associate pulling with it and do it next time you meet another dog. I say 'let's go' and turn around if she's pulling towards it. Did this with Remus too and he's learnt it along with the 'leave it' command for dogs we don't know.

If you are having trouble geting the sit before she meets people,.. why not try it the other way around,.. give as many people you can,.. friends and the like a treat for her,...as they approach they ask the dog to sit before giving the treat,.. I am sure that she will jump up at first, but she may well learn not to if she think the other person has something for her.

I have not had the problem, and I have no idea if it will work,.. but it is something I would try

I have always had a five minute rule with Mishka, No one talks, touches or looks at her untill they have been around her for five mintutes. As with people who try to stroke her I am very firm and outspoken, I put a hand up and say "please don't touch, talk or eye contact her as she has to learn all people are not play things, and if she jumps up when fully grown and hurts someone it is enough to sentence as a dangerous dog."Every one seems to accept this with good grace.
There is always the exception to the rule of course, like the tw*t that thought it ok to put his fingers in her mouth, when I told him to stop he said "I am only playing with her" I replied in not so polite a manner "NO your not, you are teaching her it is ok to bite strangers! so get your hand away from her,if she were a full grown GSD you wouldn't wont you hand in her mouth then, would you?" I know I sound rude but hell it is my job to protect her future.
