Out for walks for the first time
Hi guys
Was able to take 11 week old Jess out for the first time on lead this weekend and have been so looking forward to the event!
She is so well behaved and very calm, does not pull on the lead at all, when she came across another dog she basically just sat down and remained calm without showing much interest in the other dog at all.
On the way home from the Park we took her onto a field which is deserted and decided to let her off the lead for a little run, she doest run far or for long even in the garden but i did prepare the OH that if she ran he would have to chase her.
Needn't have bothered, let her off the lead and as we walked across the field she basically walked between hubbys legs, not to the side or in front, actually in between. He nearly fell over several times, it was funny! But, I can understand that this is quite daunting for her until she gets used to the walks, but even a very short walk around the block, she really cant wait to get home, if she sees anyone passing on the other side of the road even she sits and just watches them, never barks not even at other dogs.
Do you think that her confidence will build as she gets used to her walks, she does not want to leave our side, she walks brilliantly on the lead altho likes to zigzag side to side behind me, im taking her out twice a day only for about 10 minutes gentle walk. She is such a lovely well behaved girl when we are out, but im hoping that she isnt going to be too nervous about her walks, what do you think?
Many thanks
Annette

Yeah I agree with Sarah when they're little they don't tend to wander off, as their confidence grows with the outside world then she'll want to explore more.
Even now Diesel will walk 12-15 paces and then look back to check I'm with him

How lovely is that tho, ive only ever been used to dogs that have run off when let off the lead, its so cute she wants to stay close. She has also started piddling with excitement when people come to visit, ive told everyone to ignore her and not look at her until she calms down, this is the correct procedure isnt it??
she can be a little monster with me and my OH, but with everyone else she is a complete softie, they think im lying when i say she bites my ankles and arms constantly hahaha, im sure shes playing some game here to get everyone on her side! hehehe she is an absolute angel too, 12 weeks today and we have had two dry nights im over the moon, seems like since we started her walks at the weekend she has stopped weeing at night, how good is that!! ooh im a proud momma xx
Thanks guys, love all your advice so much, off to puppy class second visit tonight, she wasnt impressed with other dogs last week and spent most of the time there under chair, i dont think other dogs are of much interest to her at all!! lol

Ha Diesel used to pee when other people were around and when my OH came in from work, we used the ignore approach and it worked really well.
Have fun at classes tonight, I'm sure as time goes on she'll grow in confidence and she'll have great fun.
xx

Blade is the same as Sarahs Rayden, he likes to be with me or OH when we are out, he is always round our legs but i love the fact that he doesn't run off. Logan is very clingy too really, he happily runs after his ball but doesn't go too far from us other than that unless the children run off in the woods or park then he 'rounds them up'!! LOL
Matrix is my cocky one who runs off after people and other dogs, not too far but he is certainly Lab and not GSD!! That shows in his behaviour soo much!
