When Ozzie was little I would just do very short sessions with him, about 2-3 minutes each. But these were always during play times so he didn't really know he was training. I would do maybe two or three of these a day. I still only do two or three five minute sessions with him through out the day now, unless we are at training of course!

As already said,.. keep the times short and always end a training period with a good result,... even if your dog is having difficulty, never end on that, go back to something he knows and finish on a good note.

I have not had a young pup, but I will still teach my dogs, general things while makeing it into part of play,..and never more than about 15 mins

Yes similiar to the other posters I do 5-10 mins of training a day, depending what we're doing. Training is very tiring for your dog too, 10 mins is equivalent to a walk for them.

I end the session with play, and have a toy they don't have access to for that - so when the lamb comes out they know it's a special play time.

As Stuart says end on a +ve. Signs the session's going on too long are lack of concentration, panting, pacing and generally appearing stressed - that's the dog, not you!

ok oopsy by me i didnt word it properly i ment we do the through out the day stuff like when im doing the dishes i'll say stuff like sit and wait and she does so i say good girl and thats it so not really training more reinforcing what she already knows but then we will have a ten min play training session putting new things there and fetch as her treat or a food treat ect but making it huge ammounts of fun and really on the floor crazy play so she doesnt even know she is learning untill we say it at a later date and she knows what it means, but as soon as she get's tired or needs toilet we stop and pick it up again at a later time. and i was just wondering if this is about rite then??

love

I wouldn't go too overboard but then you want to keep her stimulated, I'm sure you can tell now when she's getting a bored sidetracked, I would try to end just before that and on a good note.

thanks for all the advice guys we always finish on a good note and she spends the next ten or so mins strutting around the house all big and proud of her self and then goes over to tyson as if to say "they said i did good boy " well it seems to be working as like i said she is doing really well and seems to really enjoy it so we will stick to what we are doing and see how it goes if any drastic changes then maybe more questions will be popping up but untill then wish us luck

cheers again
love sammy
