down or lie command?

whats best ?
one or both for two different situations.

presently i am using lie command after reuben sits and if i am in the kitchen and he's settling, i'll use sit then lie.

down is for when he jumps up (me or the kids) and i turn and ignore , i also use it when hes jumping in the pen or when he jumps up to the counter top the hungry guy doing his hoover act!!!

hes 15wks.

husbands disagrees - hes say i should only use the DOWN command

care to settle the debate!!!

Personally I use DOWN to get them to lie down, and when they jump up I tell them OFF!

Ok, first use one command! No good mixing it up for him.

I use 'sit' for sit, 'down' for lying down, and 'settle' for the dog to chill and lie down. To stop a jump up on people or objects i use 'off!'

No good saying 'down' if the dog's on the sofa and you don't want him to be... he'll proably lie down on it! doing what he was told

I very rarely use the command `sit`,.. if I do the dogs know it, but I tend to always used the `down` command,..you can always use a deep voiced `doowwnn` to command the dog,..where as an excited dog often hears the more high pitched sounding command of `sit` as something he can ignore

I use 'down' to get the dogs to lie down. When I was teaching them not to jump up at people I just turned my back & said 'no.'

I think the word 'down' can be made to sound immediate & final if you see what I mean - a command the dog knows he has to follow.

I use same as most of you .... 'Down' for lie down and 'off' for off the sofa, off people ........ I tell people off for saying 'sit down', cos to me that is 2 separate commands and lots of people say that ' sit down Zak' now do you want him to 'sit' or 'down' ...... lol
