Crate Games

Lately I saw a few posts where people were having problems taking their dogs to the crate. We teach going to the crate and exiting the crate on command and it is an extremely useful obedience exercise. A dog can be sent to his crate from anywhere in the house and re-called when needed. This video shows the result when trained correctly. Hope people start using this technique as it solves many other issues.

Tara is called The Den, she will skip quite happily to it knowing full well a premium treat will probably follow if not she just gets the zillions of bits n bobs she has hidden under the vetbed inside.

Cheers, will try and teach this one to Zak. Was wondering what to teach him next. So far he does sit, down, paw and on Saturday learn t speak (only took him about 20 minutes and loads of treats and does it on command every time now, the wife was gob smacked when she came home from Tesco lol. Thanks

Diesel doesn't have a crate but I just made sure from the start all treats were given in his bed, so I just say 'in your bed' and he's straight in...great vid though, nice to see dogs having fun.

Archie is always willing to go to his bed. He loves it. The command is also, literally, 'bed.' If he lingers in the doorway, he gets 'move your butt' and moves him bum in too.

I think it might be because he gets a bedtime treat, and has for forever. If I forget to chuck it in before him, I always make sure I go and get one and bring it to him once he's in.

They're those green calcium dental sticks that leave his breath smelling minty-fresh, and they're the only treat he only ever gets a bedtime.

Ozzie loves his crate! If he is tired, he takes himself off to bed! He got his head stuck in one of the terriers crates the one day, it had been put on the floor in front of his crate with the door open and he tried to get in it!

Here's my boy jumping into his bed. He was fed in his crate from Day 1 and this has made it his happy place!
