Back Training

Just back from training, Jazmin was brillant. She went in barking and lunging, the trainer shook a tin of pebbles at her, Jazmin stopped immediatiely and looked at the trainer.I took over, she was calm. Trainer says theres nothing wrong with her, but Jazmin sees me as weak (I do agree with her) So I'm off on my walks tomorrow armed with a tin.I need to be more confident with her.
I should make her feel like I'll protect her and not the other way around. Really enjoyed tonight, and can't wait to go out tomorrow and meet some dogs.Jazmin was very good at sit, down, and stand and holding those comands for a minute. One proud Mummy and Daddy.

Thanks for your replies.
I do feel more confident, and when I dont, the o/h will take her.
I'll stay at home and beat myself up (having a drink with my feet up)! haha..

Hi Mazz, just wanted to say the tin works for me with my Jess too when she gets out of control, well in the house anyway, we used to use it for her mouthing as she was getting far too rough, and after trying absolutely every other method suggested, it worked the very first time, and still does if ever she forgets her manners hahah just getting hold of the tin she stops to think about her next move hahaha

Have taken the tin out with us to try and stop her going mental trying to chase cars and its not really working at the moment, she far to hyper to take any notice so thats something we are working on too right now.

Good luck with it all, theres never any rest for the wicked! lol

Sassysmum will become famous soon enough
The tin or bottle of pasta method is fine and works well if used under the right circumstances ie as a distraction.

Some people misunderstand or just don't see why the dog is doing what it is doing and don't take emotion into account.
Many including myself use EMRA which stands for Emotional, Mood State and Reinforcement Analysis which put simply,

•Analyses how your pet feels on a day to day basis – are they fully content with life?
•Determines how your pet feels when the problematic situation arises
•Looks at why your pet is continuing to perform the problematic behaviour

IF the bottle/tin methods are used when the dog is actually fearful or worried and the owner shakes a bottle or tin in its face it can be damaging to the bond or relationship and it can increase the anxiety next time a similar circumstance arises don't you think????? It certainly won't give the dog confidence in its owner the next time the dog feels anxious

I do also think people use "quick" fixes rather than address the problem in a more positive way.

Just my thoughts
