Obedience training

At the puppy class this week the instructor said that those wishing to do obedience training at a later date should ensure that the dog always sat facing the same way as the handler. Just got me to wondering as to whether I should start to consider anything else to incorporate now to make things easier in the future.

Not much to suggest except always work you dog on your left. All obedience work is done with the dog here and it is good to get them used to it as early as possible.
If you intend to use a whistle for recall then start now too. I find it is brilliant over long distances.

As a trainer I would agree get used to working your dog on your left, if you are using treats get yourself and your dog used to less treats until you no longer need them as no treats allowed as you progress and in competion. Get your dog used to working in areas with lots of distractions like the local park as lots of shows and comps are outdoors at agricultural shows etc. But above all enjoy every minute of it that is the most important thing you and your dog show enjoy your training and it should give you a deeper understanding of what makes your dog tick and ultimately a stronger bond.

I intend to do a lot of training in the local park so plenty of distractions there

Not sure whether to use a silent whistle or ref type

No problem with reducing treats as she isn't always interested on treats when we are out but if I need to remove treats how do I introduce a toy or just praise ??
