Dont buy a nylon one,.. you will find that the material will burn your hard if you get pulled, and because it is thin it is hard to hold onto.
Many people go for the long lines that are used for training horses, they are a good length, leather with a good clip
Length is not so important, because if you dont require the full length you just let it drag behind you,...so 20 or 30 feet is no problem

I used an old climbing rope, knotted along its length.. when it got minging I put it in the washing machine. But any long line from an equestrian place should be ok.

Personaly if I was after a long training lead, I would be looking at 20ft - 30 feet.

I just use the cheap 10m nylon one and wear gloves, its not in use daily so I couldnt justify all the extra money when I can use a nylon one which costs less than £10 and wear gloves when training
If you are going to use it alot rather than occasionally for certain training the comments about the nylon burning are true though lol

I also have one that I bought for a foster dog, I didnt want to by an expensive one for a one-off.
To make it so that it didnt burn my hands I tied knots in it every foot
If I was going to buy another long line I would look at horse gear
