BAGSD Training
Hi All
Is anyone a member and if so has anyone attended any of the Birmingham Clubs?
There isn't any GSD specialist clubs in Glos (although I am trying to persuade Nat to run one) so the nearest to me is B'ham.
The Perry Barr Club have training on Sun mornings which would keep me and the monster occupied a bit more (OH fishes all day on Sunday - every Sunday inc Easter Sunday )
Any thoughts?

I haven't, but if you're coming to brum, check out Knowle dog training club. It is a multi breed club (so IMO better) but almost all of the trainers have been involved as police puppy walkers, or own/have owned sheps, so they're great with them.

I used to go there yeah. Once jess has had her jabs in April (they didn't Mark her card last year so it appears as if shes not vacced) I'm hoping to go there with her as she's more fun to train and is more intelligent/challenging than harls.

Luna goes here Wythall GSD Training Club - in wythall, Birmingham
She started off in puppy classes at Knowle where Jen goes, and Apollo did the 8 week course that all starting there do but we didnt find it challenging enough for them, classes at that time were too large and I found I was often standing around to much waiting for other dogs.
But I guess it depends what you are looking for out of a club, Knowle is geared towards Good Cit awards whereas Wythall is more on the ob levels. Luna gets to have a go at agility, play off lead with other dogs, aswell as doing Ob work. Her and my hubby go every sunday for the past 18months & love it. Friends of ours have just started with their boy who has reached his gold Good Cit as a way to continue his training.
I think its all down to what suits the individual Ive also heard good things about perry barr bagsd - so I would say go and visit the different places to get a feel.

We did bagsd classes with Dex when he was a puppy. Didn't really enjoy them much as the one we went to made us feel quite stupid. We were the only first time dog owners- all the rest of the puppy owners had 1-2 year old dogs in the later adult class. They all knew what the next thing to learn would be and would practice before class. Not having done the classes before, we started off at a disadvantage and Dex got a name as being a bit disruptive/thick at picking things up. I also found it to be ultra competitive- e.g. People saying stuff like "my dog hasn't messed indoors since he was 5 days old" whilst my (much younger) dog is taking a crap in the corner of the room. Yeh mate, very supportive!!
In fairness though, we did the classes for 2 months and it did help us lay the foundations for a nicely trained dog, but in the end we decided we'd do better going it alone.
