National anti jogger day?

Was it National anti jogger day yesterday?
Ted seemed to think so.
He has not shown any interst in joggers since he was a puppy really but yesterday he had two of them in the space of 15 mins.
I am usually on guard when I see one just in case but unfortunaltely the first one came upon us from behind so I didnt know he was there until too late. Ted started by trotting on behind him, then the tail came up and he ran beside him, then the onslaught of barking started. I could tell by the body language it was just a bit of naughtiness and not real aggression, he was having some fun with this guy.
He ignored me completely when called off and the jogger (very sensibly - not) decided to start shouting at Ted and threatening him. This of course made him worse. I did manage to call him off and back to me.
The second jogger was miles off but Ted was in the mood then and launched like a jogger-seeking missile at him (there is a chance he thought it was my OH who was not with us at the time but who had met us there unexpectedly the day before), anyway he came back to me once he got within sniffing distance of the second jogger and happily left him alone. I put him on the lead and abandoned our walk.
I know that joggers have every right to run wherever they want but I really dont understand why they carry on running when being persued by a dog when standing still would mean that the dog would probably lose interest a whole lot sooner. And as for shouting and waving your arms about at the dog, he is lucky not to have been bitten really.

Gill, as a runner - joggers only go out in nice weather and wear far too many clothes - and dog owner, I can see both sides.

If you're running and a dog interferes with that, causing you to stop while the owner recalls it, it's inconvenient.. not because of the dog (unless dog phobic) but because your breathing rhythm will be out when you start up again. If you're running hard and you suddenly have to stop you can feel quite sick too, as your blood pools. And obviously stopping means you'll lose time if you're timing a run etc.

I just keep on runnng if a loose dog comes up to me; often the dog wants to run with you for a bit. And i make the owner do some work catching it I don't understand why runners wave their arms about or make a scene - that's just encouraging the dog in my mind. Or those who stand rigid but look at the dog, durrr.

If I'm running near farms often the farm dog(s) will run near me and bark but once you're off their territory they stop, like an invisible barrier. I just say 'Hi Sam' and carry on.

There was a bad tempered westie I used to encounter on my runs which tried to bite my ankles.. I got fed up dancing out of its way, so I turned around and ran up to its owner and barked in her face. She looked like this I said 'I'm just being friendly!'

Love it!

Diesel got on the bad side of a jogger once - he was with the OH and he had managed to avoid her by going in the opposite direction etc the OH stopped (he was on the phone) when the jogger despite having the whole field and running track stopped in the middle right next to OH and Diesel and then stood on his tail with her spikes!!!!!!!!! They were the only people there!!!

Diesel jumped and grabbed her foot

OH was really concerned but to be fair she insisted that it was her fault

I was not happy but relieved when he came home and banned him from going there again with the monster

Poor Diesel! Bet the silly woman was embarrassed.. some people!

I swear some people are crossed with sheep they have such strong herding instincts.. You can be on a hill in the middle of nowhere enjoying the solitude and 'ramblers' will appear and stand right on top of you

LOL it's cyclists with Clay. Unfortunately our best walk area is over the lake near our home and it has a signposted cycling path running along one edge of it next to a river leading to Gatwick Airport and the main A23. Most of the time I spot them (and they spot Clay and slow down) and I manage to walk him off into one of the little paths that lead down to the river to avoid any conflict. But, every so often you get one that either insists on his (and it is generally a bloke - sorry) right to barrel through or they slow down to the point that it's a physical mystery that the bike is still upright, to goggle at the massive GSD (much like freak tents), so much so that Clay ends up sitting by the river looking at me every so often as if to say 'K Mum, seen the river and it's reaaalllly boring me now'.

I do appreciate their right to be there but it is a well known dog walking area locally and a bit of courtesy on each part is very much appreciated.
