Treats or toy

Hi
Following on from a thread I was reading earlier I wondered how people motivate their dogs treats or toys
Those that use treats, how did you switch & how do you choose the toy ?

It's what they covet that makes you pick something, Boris is very toy possessive but a treat will make him forget any toy in the blink of an eye.

Which treat ? Whatever they love most.

Each dog is different, both mine are treat rather than toy driven as they're greedy lil sods

Can't do toys with some dogs as they become soooo possessive but at least with a treat it's gone so no more arguing over it in the future.

If your dog is toy motivated, the only thing that will do it is the toy s/he loves most

A bit like Audrey with wispas, or Linda with seabrooks, or me with gin

Otto 's Mutter has a spectacular aura about
For training (both in and out of class) Otto is motivated by food especially cheese.

However, when he is off lead & at play, he is focused by a squeaky ball. We tend to take spares in our pockets just in case we lose one and it is his job to carry it home

Ozzie sounds the same as otto, treats inside, frisbee outside! The little sod dropped his frisbee in the river tonight!!! Another trip to PAH at the weekend! That was his last one.

For treats, I chop ox heart into little pieces, sprinkle with garlic and roast very slowly in the oven so it dries out. That is his main treat, for extra special rewards, fish4dogs fish skins!!!! It is just trial and error to see what their favourite thing is that they will work for!

With Bonnie its liver cake in or out but out a squeeker can distract her better than a treat if her focus has gone elsewhere but thats just a noise to get her attention, when I have it, it as to be a ball

Remus likes liver cake, beef jerky, sausage and cheese for treats.

Zee likes the same treats but she'll also work for a ball. I've put a tasty treat down and a ball to see which she'll go for first - ball!
