No worries!

The traditional fur savers are classed as choke / check chains because of their design they can be used as such.

I never use them like that though, I clip the lead(s) to any of the links or the 'dead' ring so the collar won't tighten but stays at the fixed size when you put it over the dog's head. Don't know if that makes sense? I'll post a pic later when I'm back home...

They do a martingale fur saver or half check version, so maybe your club would be ok with that

Sanke is on a distinguished road
Yes Anni that make sense. Just watched some videos on youtube. Half check is fine for the training club (this is only once a week so if need be I can use whatever collar throughout the week) Have been looking at a lot of pics of GSD's on various sites & a lot of them use chain collars

Ah good. I was fed up of washing stinky fabric semi-slip collars as mine go in water a lot. The fact fur savers don't mark the fur and are practical did it for me. However, the collars do have a certain 'image' I guess - one friend called them police dog collars

The only thing that puts me off metal chain collars is if it gets caught round something, or another dog catches it when playing (round its jaw) and tightens it you have no way of being able to cut it off and the dog can end up getting strangled.

Especially when I have a number of dogs playing together they always wear fabric collars for that reason. At least I can cut them easily with a pen knife.

Some of the dogs I have had I could guarantee 100% that if it was possible to strangle themselves somehow, they would have done it!!

Yeah Sue, that does bother me. Mine never wear their collars unsupervised or when they're playing.

Mind you the other day my OH had taken the dogs out and he managed to put Zee's collar on wrong - he threaded the chain through the small link, not the round hole which made it considerably smaller I had a right faff getting it off her. Idiot!
