Fetch and play?
Hello!
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me when my baby will enjoy playing on her walks?!
Shes 14 weeks and plays fetch and chews up sticks in our garden but when shes out she doesn't want to know at all. I throw her a ball and she just looks at it but when I'm in the garden and I throw a ball she goes after it, gets it and brings it back time after time!
Is it because its all new on the outside? I just not sure if she'll ever enjoy her walks at all?!!

Some of it may be down to outside is new to her and ball playing might increae has she builds her confidence..
But there again she may not want to play ball when out on a walk prefering to smell the smells, explore the area and interact with you and other dogs..
My two don't play with balls when out on walks..
Jones is because he doesn't do balls at all, if you throw it he might if you'll lucky go to it and touch it with his nose... And never gone further..
Ellie is the local park ball thief
If she gets a ball her notion of the game is that we are supposed to chase her in an attempt to get it off her, she will skirt 10 meters or more away from you trying her best to entice you or another dog into the chase
We don't fall for it though, and working to find away of ensuring she gives the ball back, but all the home training is brillient, she will fetch, drop etc all on command but get into the park it all goes out the window

It's interesting that very much like humans, it's the same with our woofers. They're all different to some degree. For example Layla loves to play and fetch things..just about ANYWHERE.
Our last GS Snoopy, I remember one time trying to get her to fetch..and she said..

Sometimes Zee will pick up an object and carry it around. She'll drop it by me and want me to chuck it but I only do that if it's a large object and no chance of going down her throat, and if we're on our own. Yesterday I chucked a big stick for her and it went in long grass - she took a few mins but was very determined to seek it out.
Remus will copy her and pick up something - then she takes it off him! He doesn't seem to mind sharing - occasionally they'll have a tug with it if it's a branch, and then kneecap me with it.

Diesel doesn't tend to play on his walks, unless it's in the mornings and him & Osc love to play fight, he likes to mooch and sniff...lol...oh and meet new friends.
Oscar on the other hand only wants to play with his ball and will ignore everything, so much so that I now don't take a ball out in the mornings and he's become more interested in other dogs and will play with Diesel and my friends Akita pup, he lurves her sooo much but the size difference is hilarious

Dempsey will bring back anything you throw in the house to the point of obsession.
When we're out, though, & i throw something, he looks at me as if to say "You threw it; You get it!".
