Sheba can do these things for the right person you... And if the trainer was even half decent she might just show her how clever she is...
I think that Sheba is telling you something she hates this so called trainer and wants out of there sharpish
Mind you I would be tempted to go back next week, but carrying a jug of water then I would when tackled by the trainer, dump it across her head and say you are such a rude person you need to be taught manners dear lady, as you feel it fit not only to spray my dog but also myself, I felt it fit that a jug of water was appropiate measure for your rudness
Sorry I know where you are to it's difficult to find training classes, but the way this women trains, none is probably a better option

I cant believe the trainer sprayed you, now thats one way to make a person stressed/annoyed all of which your girlie is going to pick up on and then is going to be harder to do the commands.
This should be a fun time with your dog, and yes we dont all get it right straight away and we all have days where it goes completely wrong but hey the good should always out weigh the bad and it sounds like this place is more bad then good. Do you look forward to going? do you come away happy with what you have been taught?

[QUOTE=gsdstewart;206257I have arms that look like they have been through a shredder....[/QUOTE]
been there .... done it .... T shirt .... with my last gsd Zymbre.
As a baby god he was a serious arm shredder when it came to mine !!!!
Vowed that would never happen again.
When I 1st took my now gsd Zennie to training, wasn't overly impressed with training. Now (thanks to Trish) - new training club and completely different methods and responses from Zennie ...... he's doing great.
Where are you geographically ?
xx

You need to change training classes quick luvvie, that trainer isn't a trainer, treating you/dog like that.
You'll be amazed at the difference in one session if you go somewhere dog focussed instead of results focussed xxx

Hi Mandy, the trainer sounds progressive - NOT. And the owner must go through door / hall first before the dog is just bollox.
Picking you first do the exercises, setting you and Sheba up to fail - wow bet she feels proud!

Hi your dog can do these things in a training place there is so many distractions for her to cope with. When I first take a dog to work with others, i concentrate on very simple things so I get small successes. The trainer should not be setting you up for failure ie recalls off the lead. if she went wrong then she should have asked you to do a short recall on lead so she finished on a winner. training should be fun with small successes so you both feel good about yourselves I would try and find another trainer so you can have positive experiences what area local can you get to someone on here might know of someone good

Actually teaching the dog to wait while the handler goes through the door first is one of the requirements for the bronze test and IMO is a valuable exercise, particularly when entering a hall full of excited dogs. I do agree though that it sounds as if this is not the right class for you - are there no GSD specific training clubs within reach? I have found that breed specific clubs tend to be far more helpful as they are used to dealing with mouthy young (and older) GSDs and have experience of most of the training problems that arise within the breed.

Yes I can see situations when you need to check ahead and go before your dog - like today I checked a gated field with high fence for stock before my dogs went through. But entering a hall with excited dogs really won't make much difference I would have thought - the dogs know there's other dogs there anyway. Entering the hall with a dog under control should be a given whether the dog's in front or behind you.
Definitely think a more specific club is required.

...I am in Fife...Scotland....
...I have had an email from the trainer...made an impression....
Sorry you had a bit of a traumatic day today, I think it's fair to say she's well & truly in the teenage stage!
I suppose the main thing to remember with the Shepherds is that because they are such a "people" breed, they do pick up on your emotions very easily. So basically if she sees you're getting stressed, she's just going to do whatever she was doing all the more, just to wind you up. I suppose if she was a kid she'd be the one hitting a wasps' nest with a stick, just to see how angry she could make them! lol
So, deep breath, keep calm, but make sure that the next time she bites at your hand like that, she thinks World War 3 has started! If she was mine, every single time she either jumped up at me or grabbed my hand, I'd instantly grab her by the collar & drag her out of the room & leave her there for 5 minutes or so. She will try to resist, hide under the table, barge at the door when you're trying to close it etc etc but just keep calm. Keep telling yourself that she WILL NOT WIN! You will probably have to repeat that numerous times before she gets the idea that you are serious.
She is obviously quite a dominant dog and that is not a bad thing in any way (dominant doesn't mean aggressive of course, it means assertive!) It does however mean that you are going to have to be really strong & determined not to let her get the upper hand just now. This is the most exasperating part of having a dog of course, but if you're patient, consistent & firm she will learn to respect you and it'll all get easier from then.
Hope this helps, see you next week
....I am still not sure what to think......I do not have the police dog in action in the house...if I had any teenage behaviour it is normally outside.....???
....thanks for your comments....and guaranteed that Sheba is picking up my vibes.......
