The wonders of liver cake

Ted is currently working towards his advanced certificate in obedience and I have been having a hell of a lot of trouble with his retrieve. (I think I have the only GSD on the planet that doesn't like to play fetch).
He will bring the toy back but then runs out of interest and drops it half way back to me.
I have tried all sorts of things with no success, until this weekend when I made some liver cake.
Suddenly he will do anything for me, including understaning the "hold" command which he has previously thought of as a foreign language when I used it.
There has been about 100% improvement in his attention since I started using it as a reward so I am planning to use it from now on. I am only using it for training treats so he doesn't become too bored with it.
It just goes to show he knew what I wanted all along, he just needed the right incentive.

Just be careful if you use it where there are other dogs around ..............

I used to take cooked liver to training class and all the dogs were giving me 100% attention!

It got quite embarrassing - they were all fixed on me and totally ignoring their owners!

If you try and use it in your local park you could well end up with a load of dogs following you home .......

I use cooked heart for training, and whilst doing a multiple dog recall, I called Ozzie and had four dogs sat at my feet!!! Gets the other owners a bit frustrated at times!!

This happened to me when I took liver cake on one of our walks. All the dogs loved it especially my friends Doberman, who was being walked by another friend who was looking after him for the day. The Doberman wouldn't leave me alone he kept jumping on me (v. scary) and he wouldn't listen to anyone. In the end I had to give him the empty bag so he would go away!

Thanks for the heads up about that. I don't intend to take it to the park but it will be funny to see the reaction when I take it to obedience school on Tuesday.
I quite like the idea of being Mrs Dog Whispered for an hour and it might change my OH's mind about having another dog if I bring some home with me.

Kita right if you've got liver cake you become very popular with the dogs and not so much the owners though

I've got used to the attention that Ellie and Jones mates pay me when I've got liver cake on me, they all plod over to have a sniff then if I've got the go off in degust

Mind you it's not only Ellie and Jones thats partial to a piece of liver cake, I make my own, and then have to fend off hubby to stop him eating it all
