Travis Foster and Kai's Schutzhund 2 Videos

For those people interested in Schutzhund (I wasn't sure there were any on the forum but apparently there are) I'm posting our most recent Schutzhund 2 trial at Severnside Schutzhund Club judged by Henriette Bohnstedt. Kai has been trained by Trav since he (Kai, not dad) was 7 weeks old.

Tracking, Score - 98/100 Warning, tracking isn't the most exciting thing to watch on video!

Obedience (I've posted this one on another thread before), Score - 92/100

Protection, Score - 95/100

Trav and Kai are doing their schutzhund 3 at Sheffield Schutzhund Club in 2 weeks time on the 25/26th of june. Just been trying to polish up on the last couple of areas to get maximum points in the run up and hoping he can do even better.

Ash.

Yes he did! The reason the dog did that is in the weeks approaching the SchH2 dad decided to switch from silent guarding (which he'd learned to do since day one) to barking after the escape which caused a little bit of nervousness on the day because Kai still wasn't quite sure he was doing it right. The dog didn't turn its head like that before he switched it as you can see in his schutzhund 1 protection.

Kai's Schutzhund 1 Protection in Bruhl Germany. Score - 97 (sorry the filming of this one isn't as good because my mom did it!)

The reason he decided to change it was that the dog is such a good barker he thought in the long run it'll give judges a more impressive picture of the dog for him to bark. I think dad taught the silent barking initially because he'd never taught it with any of our other dogs before (I might be wrong about that one) and wanted to try it out with Kai.

The problem has hopefully been fixed for schH 3 now he's had a bit more time getting used to it in training. We shall see on the day but he's been much better.

The German ones, which makes the musician in me cringe. In music, because the Italians are the masters of it, we English use their words when describing it or in performance directions. The Americans, French and Germans all tend to use their own language but we English seem to have an inferiority complex about using our language in art forms we didn't ourselves master.

You see the same thing happen in the film 'Cool Runnings' when the Jamaican bob sleigh team copy the Swiss team counting down at the start of their run.

However, in practical terms the German commands do seem to have a bit more immediacy to them.

Nein - No
Sitz - Sit
Platz - Down
Fuss - Heel
Aus - Out
Shtay - Stay (I don't think thats a real german word thats just how he says it)
Revere - Attack/search hides/bark

Everything else I think he uses english like the casual non work lay down is just 'lay down' or 'down', 'good boy' and 'away' for the send away.

He uses 'legs' for when he wants him to weave between the legs and 'back' when he wants him to go backwards in heelwork.

Don't know if I'm missing any out.

Ash.
