Test Time.

We have been taking Ozzy to obiedience training classes for 6 weeks now and in 2 wks time he or rather we, have the final test. The test consists of various excercises we must complete to the satisfaction of an instructor including sit and stay for 30 seconds, and down and stay for one whole minute. He is fine when we practice on the park but as he is only 4 months old he is easily distracted in the class situation.
They are doing the test on a one to one basis with the other dogs and owners waiting outside. The problem is Ozzy loves meeting all his chums and as soon as he sees the room his excitement level is raised somewhat. He does the excercises very well but becomes easily bored and restless, so we wait for the outcome, will he get his certificate and photo wearing his little mortar board and gown for graduation day ????

Unfortunately we can't do that as it is a busy community centre hall with many functions going on every night so it would be out of the question. Lin is a nurse and suggested maybe a shot of sedative or two...
But seriously I think perhaps a walk beforehand may hopefully do the trick.

Test at 4 months??? Crikey I'm not even going to start training mine, apart from house training and socialising, until she's at least 4 months. AND she's going to be a hardcore schutzhund dog!

Hope it all goes well for you

All you can do is try and if Ozzy breaks the stay then oh well, you can try again another time....enjoy it as he's still so young there's plenty of time to get it right

Best of luck with this.

I find with Mason that a little exercise beforehand helps wear off some of his excitement, but too much leaves him lacking in concentration. Could he have a little play with one of the other dogs beforehand?
