BusyBee is on a distinguished road
Guessing what's next...

Sam is on the mend, and we've been able to get back to a bit of training today!

I haven't trained a pup before and all my knowledge comes from books! I have trained him to sit and down using a lure. Today we have been trying it with just the commands, voice and signals-then a treat, he sits great but if he doesn't get a treat straight away he pre-empts the down command, and then won't sit again he just lies there giving me the 'well give me the treat then' look other than luring him back up I'm not sure what to do.

He is sitting nicely for feeding, and to be released from his crate. I'm really pleased with him, he appears to be housetrained (no accidents yet!) and when I say bed time he goes straight in his crate, so I seem to be able to get to grips with the simpler things!

His puppy classes start on the 11 July and Bronze Award starts on the 6th Aug, so I will be getting professional help soon

Sally

Try not to give a treat every time he gets it right,..do so untill he knows whats expected of him, then miss out a few times,...otherwise you end up with a dog that will do anything for a treat, but little for you,... when you forget your treats, you have a dog that doesnt want to do anything

.... but it does sound like you have it all under control, just be prepared, the training class may teach things a different way, which might mean starting from scratch

I echo this. Though remember to always give praise because if the treats and Good Dog stop the dog will think 'Buggar that!' when it comes to doing something.

Even if I yell at mine to come out of a crop field - fishwife voice - I praise them with a nice voice when they do as I ask, so they know they've done right. They know 'Not in there!' very well now

I also give treats for random things. Like if I'm stood chatting to someone and Zee whines cos she wants to get on with the walk, i ignore her. But if she sits quietly while I'm chatting through no command from me, I'll give her a treat.
