agility and training
i have spoke to a dog trainer person.. and explained about pappy getting attacked and i told her that to her that pappy needed to get his confidence around other dogs..and that hes ok around old dogs, and dogs that dog move much. but he needed to get his confidence up around dogs his own age. so she said shes going to ring me up tomorrow, (she didnt have long tonight before she had a class).. what she wants me to do is take him to a class with small puppies to start with, she said he shouldnt feel threatened by them then. she said it dont matter if he doesnt do anything on 1st session.. but least he will be in and around dogs. she said after a few weeks, she will introduce him to, i spose a dog thats had advanced training, one that isnt going to startled him, etc. and after his confidence is built up, he can go in with dogs more his own age. but she said she will be able to judge it better after she has met him. and seen what he is like. the good thing is.. she has wavered the fee!!! you have to pay so much every 'term' or something. she said all i will have to pay is the £1.40 every session. and wont have to pay anything else!!
also, pappy is on the list for agility. she said it will be a couple of months before a place comes up for that,as there is a waiting list. but she reckons pappy might benefit from it.. give him loads of confidence!! i have no idea of the cost of that. but if it helps him, i dont care.
only thing is, i didnt mention that he was white. so iv no idea if this will make a difference, on whether they will let him do agility.. hoping it doesnt.

It shouldn't make any difference whatsoever.
What makes you think it would?

Hi Vicky
No it wont make any difference - Diesel has just started agility in Chelt - is that where you are going? He has started with the puppies for exactly the same reason - confidence building and being around jumpy excitable dogs. (I am a bit of a nobby no-mates there though!) Deez is the only GSD.

This is interesting Vicky,..I didnt realise that Pappy was still feeling a bit timid,.. it is good that you are trying to sort it out,.. and a good start, I am sure that he will improve with the help you are getting

hes still very very timid.. not as much with oap, and quiet dogs. but if a dog barks, he is a jibbering wreck. or loud noises.
the main problem is poop bins. that is going to sound strange i know. but if he sees a poop bin he goes crazy. really crazy. there is a poop bin just as we get onto the field, and i can not go near it with him. he shakes his head violently, and pull badly. yesterday i thought i would have to let him go, because i couldnt hold him. usually if he pulls when he is scared, i can dig my heels in, and manage to stop him, but yesterday he pulled me along the grass, and i had to grab onto a fence as soon as i could, and even then it was touch and go on holding him. the only thing i can think of with poop bins is, im sure it was the day after he got attacked, i used the bin, but the front of the bin opened up and made quite a noise banging..and he did jump quite a bit.
