Left or Right Side When Walking?
Hiya,
Zak's Gencon All In One came today. I just popped it on him and took him at the side of the house on the green for 2 minutes. All he did was try and get it off by rubbing his nose on the grass.
Is it possible the thing could come off? it doesn't seem that secure to me.
He also try's to keep walking on my right side as I am right handed and feel more comfy with him on my right yet they make them for the dog on the left as its more natural?
Which side of you do you have your dog, left or right when walking?

I have found that no matter what kind of head gear they wear, be it a Halti or Gencon, they will need time to get used to it, untill then, they will periodicaly try to remove it.
If the sliding piece is pushed up reasonably tight, then it wont come off,... even to this day Kee still tries to get hers off when it first goes on,..I just keep the lead tight-ish and encourage her to stop,,... which she does after a few tries.
I walk all my dogs together on my left side, I want them away from traffic, because I am the biggest and will be easier to be seen by traffic, and as our roads are narrow single track affairs, its important

When ordering, if you ordered from the main website, they give you the option of having it left or right sided. I always walk Ozzie on my left, so it made no difference to me. They don't like them, Ozzie hates having to wear his, and yes, he does get it off! If I am note watching him, when we stop he very sneakily uses his paw and slips it over his nose!! But the main bit is still around his neck, so he can't escape completely! They do kind of get used to them eventually!

Rich, dogs can prise off gencons if they really want to but usually they just slip out of the nose part, as that's the bit which annoys them. The neck part should sit high up just behind the ears and slide the toggle along the lead length to secure it.
They do make right-handed ones, but you can just turn it over before putting it on the dog for right-sided walking, so the toggle's on the right side of the dog's head rather than the left.
I walk mine one on each side of me, unless I'm at training when the dog's walked on the left. But when I just had one dog I would vary the sides walked, depending on traffic.
If Zak's anything like Remus he'll use anything to prise it off - including the bum of a gentleman stood next to me at a game fair

Harley is always walked on my left as he doesn't have a right eye, so I feel he feels safer me being on his blind side, so nothing can be unseen to him.
Jess is walked on the right if I'm out with Harley, wherever she wants to walk if she's on her own, and if training, she's on the left. She's clever though and knows when it's what time to walk in what position lol
They walk nicely on the left next to each other as well though, so not too bad

At training dog has to be on the left of you, I'm right handed too + find it more comfortable with dog on the left. But when I have them both, Boris is on the left as he's stronger + I feel I have more control, + Tilly on the right.
It's just what feels more comfortable I think mate, it doesn't really matter unless you're going into serious competition xxx

We walk Jazmin on the left.
She also wears a gencon, they can slip the nose bit off (rubbing their face along the grass) but I clip the other end on to her collar.
When I stop to talk to someone, Jazmin always tries to rub her nose in between my legs, or even worse, between the leg's (crotch) of the person I'm talking to.
When we walk,on the gencon, she walks beautifully.
