iv just read this on facebook. how true it is, i dont know. iv just copies and pasted exactly how its been written by the person who posted it.
This morning I read the new rules regarding the dangerous dog act for Scotland. Can only imagine Englands will be similar. Thankfully no mention of breeds such as Sheps having to be muzzeled.....(yes!) and emphasis is on owners having total control on recall. If you dont look out! So thats great I think recall is the most important thing a dog should know....and should respond to immediately.
However....2 areas leave me feeling disturbed. Each dog has a period of time where recall is not 100%. Its generally a learning time. ie you cant expect a pup to be fully trained at 4 months now can you? So puppy behavior is not covered....which is bad news for a shep owner....and what about the dogs that have had a difficult start to life? It takes time to eradicate former behavior patterns and retrain....and then there are more fails then rejoices before you get there. If a dog cant make mistakes he isnt going to learn more acceptable behavior.
But even more disturbing for me....is a dog warden or police officer does not have to be present to see your dog refuse recall. anyone can pick up the phone and report you! so...welcome back to the middle ages...she is a witch burn the witch...(not our beloved witches on this site) i dont like her dog syndrome! I can personally think of several people already if I was that way inclined. So although I like the fact recall is being given the importance it truly deserves.....i would like to see something a little more wholesome than this ....
